    Default 2018 MCO Ice Racing

Looks like we might actually get a race in sunday. ‘Knocks on wood’

    Who’s in?

What’s with the new transponder location?

Did we have issues with the trunk mount last season?

I believe the issue was with trying to keep the timing loop safely buried under the ice far enough to avoid damage by competitors and equipment. I can only speak to the fretting related to its location and depth in the track surface.

I’m in with inverted and schmoo. Been working on the car.

Timing loop is suspended above the track this year. Transponders go up top on pole next to shark fin.

Mike and I have been spending some evenings and weekends fixing up the racer.

    IMG_0007.jpg

The thing leaked like a sieve. First job was to fix the tranny seal. There's still a small leak in one of the lines, but a bit of a job to fix so we're going to roll the dice on that one.

    IMG_6930.JPG

Valve covers were leaking badly. A lot of oil was going into the spark plug tubes. Probably not good to have the plugs soaking in oil. There's one bolt that is pretty much impossible to reach. We invented this tool - worked great.

All four shocks were shockingly awful. We bought new rears and fronts from Alexxi. Wasn't expensive but cost about as much as the car did. But well worth it - the old shocks were doing absolutely nothing at all. Push them in and they just sit there.

Am i the only one that thinks the new transponder location is sketch? I mean is having it dangling on a 2x4 secured with #2 screws that much better than secured directly to the roof?

Doesn't need to be mounted with a 2x4, that's just what my team is using.

Different car heights, and short'ish range of the transponders means trying to get everybody as close as possible to the timing loop.

What height will the receiver be? 6.5’? Stretched between 2 towers of sorts?

Timing loop will be 7.5' IIRC, but not 100% sure. And yes, hung between two poles.

Colin and Mike plan to test it prior to the race.

I’m in with Nigel M. No Mario this year though. So it might just be Nigel and I although he keep alluding to a mysterious third guy.

Car is a mystery too...it’s still in a farmers field as far as I know. Hopefully it runs.

Looking forward to lots of stuff on Sunday. Then we race.

I'm pretty excited. Racing with 2 guys I've never met before...Greg K and Jody. Weather looks great, and our car is there waiting to go.
