Depends how long they want it to last too.

Double the power, dynamic suspension and traction systems, more aero less drag. Same weight.

Aero being the biggest factor, an F1 car is not as efficient as an LMP car. But even that LMP could be faster. Active suspension, redesigned chassis for more underbody aero etc. All other things equal, an LMP should be faster.

Ross Bentley said this weekend that the LMP car generate 4,000 lbs of aero downforce at the braking zones!! Thatís insane weight.

and he also said that managing the shift of weight distribution as the aero downforce is quickly taken off as the car sheds speed is a delicate dance. Unreal. Would be fun for sure.

Yeah as the downforce comes off, so does braking potential and you lock the tires up!

Also makes you wonder how they can go so fast with a car weighing what, more then 5,000lbs total on the straights!. I understand how they turn so fast though. The Gs must be insane.

Sim racing in the F1 cars sometimes you can mat the pedal coming into the braking zone, and the magic is coming off as you slow down, since there is not a lot of feedback with the pedal on the floor.

    Lol.
Even though Vettel has won both races, Kimi has had his number. Heís been faster in both instances just didnít stitch together the lap that mattered. Hope he gets a pole soon before they start favouring Vettel too much.

I wanted to ask Ross that. IE, if he says smooth brake release, did he ever have a driver call back, I know what I'm doing?

Two races in and there’s no clear pecking order at the head of the field and there are a couple of dark horses stirring things up behind. Actually makes me look forward to watching a race. Bring on China!

Downforce isn't mass. The only way in which it affects the power required to move the car forward is by increasing the tires' rolling resistance.

It increases aerodynamic drag, which is a much larger effect than rolling resistance.

To provide context for braking, most of these cars have lift-to-drag ratios or 4:1 or worse (some exceptional examples might hit 6:1 or 7:1).

So a 2000lb car making 4000lbs of downforce produces 1000lbs of drag... literally half a G of brakes getting off of the throttle.

Oh yeah, haven't looked forward to the next race like that in a loooooooooooong time. This is great!
