Default Project Chumpcar - Alberta Edition

Was asked my my Uncle to come out and help with the Chumpcar effort. First race is at Castrol Raceway here in Edmonton beside the airport.

    http://www.castrolraceway.com/

We are doing twin 12 hour races this weekend.

Team consists of owner/team captain Pat, his son Dylan, Cory the owner of a Fountain Tire and Adam who is the head Tech at the shop, and myself. I am the only one that has turned a wheel in anger.

The car is a Mazda MX6, V6. Brand new build from a car with a blown motor.

Arrived in Edmonton late Tuesday night, meeting with family all day Wednesday, then got to see the car that evening. Lots of beautiful fabrication, Adam is a good fabricator, and has all the tools at his disposal, very good TIG welder. Still have work to do, spent the first night installing the fire suppression system.

Today the car gets an alignment, flush the coolant out of the car, some bracket fabrication for coolant reservoir and rad cap tank, and finish off the wiring. Why is there always wiring to do?

Hopefully we are ready for tech inspection tomorrow night. Cage was built by a guy that builds NASCAR chassis apparently.

Looks too nice for a Chumpcar, not afraid to spend the bucks where needed.

But there's a bigger point here. The 1-series is the last car that BMW engineered before the Germans, as a car-making culture, fell out of love with driving.

Oh, and they have fitted Dunlop Sportmaxx RT tires?!?

Well, at least they should last the 24 hours.

Mounted on beautiful, old school forged Centerline rims.

Gutted could be cool. Wonder what cup size it'd be classified as.

I had a klze swapped mx3 for like 7yrs. I could easily build this. Been into the engines multiple times, blew one up with nitrous, ported heads, megasquirted it for some reason, as the klze is plug and play with the matching maf and ecu.

Cage would be the most expensive part.

Would be neat. Gutted to shit itd still probably be too front end heavy and understeery tho.

Ive always wanted to build an EF civic chump. Motor choice would greatly depend on corresponding classing .... Imagine a k-swap!
