track day insurance!? These guys specialize in this. Never heard of that. What I know is they charge about $250 for a day on a car worth $30k

I've seen plenty of these outfits that service the US, seems like someone finally decided to service Canada. The US ones are pretty cool, some of them will let you buy packages to cover say 6 lapping days @ year or whatever. Can't recall what their pricing is like.

I wasn't impressed, bottom line, if you can't afford to leave the car at the track, slow down or get a cheaper car.

Dealt with these people in the spring when they added all advertised 1morelap events to their schedule without my knowledge. ok, fine, your car is not my problem.

When we added the April 26th event someone wanted to sign up for track day insurance, but it wasn't on their list. They told that person to have me contact them.

Trackday wanted me to complete a event qualification form and sign it. uhm, no. There's a can of worms I don't need.

I told them to use the same process that approved the other 13 events without my knowledge.

It went back n forth for a while, and the impression I got is they don't understand what will happen when the worst happens.

As an organiser, I have my insurance taken care of, I am not about to attach my name to something like this.

anyway, buyer beware, maybe ask them how many claims they've actually paid out.

They only insure vehicles valued over ~30k.

Please be more precise, on a scale of 1 to Harper, how much you really hate them?

    Insurance companies

Harper is of the scale. Can't find an emoji that illustrates it

That's why initially I set my track car budget at $10k. I wanted a decent car (S2k but not Miata) that I could simply not care if it came back home in several boxes. Didn't want to worry about insurance etc. Then reality kicked in and budget went up 2x. I just don't drive as hard so that's my "track insurance".

My view is that insurance companies are not charities. So they must make more money then they distribute, which means that I'm more likely to spend more money on insurance than I would on replacing a wrecked my car. The money will always say NO to insurance... but emotions will usually fight this logic? How much is it worth to you to have a safety net? I would put that $250/trackday money into a savings account for when something actually does happen.

Do you also have this strange thought that it might be kind of fun to fix it with a BFH or sledge should something go awry??
