Default Point by hand vs Signal?

    Whats the advantage/disadvantage?

Signal seemed really popular at TMP.

Point by easier to control quantity? But have to take hand off wheel?

    Race cars don't have signals.

You can't accidentally point someone past.

    Um. That's all I got.

    it's not as clear.

People use to signaling where they are GOING not where they want someone to pass, so it's confusing.

Went to Mosport DDT two years ago. They wanted us to signal instead of point, because they wanted "two hands on the wheel".

It sucked. It's less clear, and because turn signals blink, once it catches your eye, there's a gap before you can confirm what you saw. It's obviously not a huge gap, but it definitely counts when most of your brain is trying to keep a fast car under control.

As above, not all cars have signals, hard to spot, etc.

But I see probably half a dozen drivers of all experience levels hit the wipers every summer. If it was a signal light, with all the noise and commotion, they might not even notice. If you accidentally end up with an arm out the window, there are bigger problems. If you can't keep your shit together and point, then you are either going to fast, or are somewhere you don't belong, and at the least aren't ready to be passed. Take a breath, relax, point.

Come in to the pit, grab the gear and head back out.
