Went to see this on Sunday for shits and giggles. 2000 Van Dieman
Owned by Pier Bortot. He raced it pretty seriously in the Quebec series 10 years ago
He's retired from racing and hasn't started this car in a few years.
Its a Ford...so not really on my shortlist, but it was local so it was worth having a look.
    Pros:
    -great chassis with real results
    -good price...$26K CDN

    Cons:
    -Ford
    -belts expired
    -needs tires
-needs seat and serious adjustments for me
    -no like livery
    -weirdo obsolete telemetry setup.

As nice as it would be to buy a local car and certainly a nice "modern" chassis...I can probably get a Honda for 5-10K more.
This will likely be snapped up by a US buyer.

    welp,
Its July and no racecar has magically appeared (I was using the "my next racecar will find me" strategy)
So I think I might tackle converting a car to Honda power.

I tracked down this engine in New York and was able to get her with minimal effort via those badasses at Standard Auto Parts.
8K kms...a reasonable candidate to do the HPD conversion.

I bought it knowing the timing cover was damaged...but no detail on how bad.
Turns out its the upper mounting point.

Should look like this in the car...

So...weld it and hope for the best?
    Or...just get another timing cover?

    No car. Just an engine.
Need a couple grand to convert this to a race ready engine.
Now I can keep my options open for a later model roller...rather than a full Honda race car.

    -different exhaust manifold
    -conversion to dry sump
    -different alternator
    -much smaller starter
+ new engine loom and ECU

Should be able to get it welded up for ~$80 or so... weird engine mount for a honda, normally that part is a removable cast iron piece.

Are you going to buy all the chassis pieces for the conversion? If your making your own up, just use that other hole. Or if you are buying the pieces, I could help make up a new piece to use the other hole, and still leave the option for the original mount.

    cool thanks.
Different chassis's use a different strategy for mounting...so I guess its wait and see what I buy.

welding that wouldn't be too hard, but you would need to have a heavy duty welding table to clamp that to. aluminum still warps with heat and being that the cover looks like its a wet chain I wouldn't trust a quick bench weld to keep it flat.

but yeah, use the other mount if that's something that is doable and allowed with your spec series.
Is the cover expensive? I would guess if its from a FIT or something else that you could probably find one cheaper than welding on ebay if you have the time.
