Default What should Karmaboy get for his next racecar?

I decided that this is my last season in the Vee.
Its been fun...but I've lost interest. With 5/6 races at Mosport, its been pretty much the same thing every weekend, every season. And its a long tow.

    What's next?
    This is my criteria;
    - small rear wheel drive, although will consider a Mini Cooper
    - normally aspirated
    - Good car for GT challenge, and Lapping. Not going to do anymore regionals.
    - Caged, built race car.
    - If a miata...then Spec Miata or D-Prep
    - $10-15K
    - Dependable, bulletproof.
    - Probably not a GT1 car...I prefer the momentum style cars

    This is interesting.

S52, stripped, caged. Basically meets the needs. Would prefer the S54
Could talk him down to $10K...but the engine is questionable.
Pix I got from the guy.

    Not out of the question.
A faster car than I'm comfortable with...but could certainly grow into it.

Buy that guys pro sport, must still be for sale.

You'd be fast immediately, I'm a big chicken still need to find 4 seconds

That s2k for $10k might be an option (posted in the track car thread).

Check I12XLR8's next track car thread. That guy was willing to sell that car @ 9k or a bit less in the spring. Engine needed work then according to him.

Pat Mcdermott of mco was talking about selling his M3. Maybe he was serious?
    Probably going to hell.

My pick would be Cooper or Miata.

Can be driven to the track, fairly fast, pretty low consumables costs(tires, brakes, fuel) and parts are easily available for maintenance for cheap too.

I'd even add a 2006+ Civic Si to that list. 200hp and LSD from the factory.

That z3 would be fun. s52's are bulletproof. Throw a set of cams and you can make easy reliable 240whp.

    Good to know.
This one has been beaten a bit as a time attack/lapping car. But you guys have proven that these BMW's can take it.

Love me M3's...one of the guys I share the paddock with at CTMP is running an M3 in the Sprints.
    This one in fact...

High end of your budget can get you a 385hp Z06 out of the states, if not that certainly a FRC Vette.

I'm clearly a Vette sack rider here, but it's a pretty tough vehicle to beat from a value point of view to a grassroots racer... Not to mention it's a (very) competitive car in stock form. No modding, no BS. Turn key and go, drive it to work the next morning.

A little out of range unless you hunt hard, but there was 1 or 2 FRS's in the 16k range.

maybe rx8 2009 and up... I think that's when the engine added the extra oil lubrication for more reliability.

No such thing as a reliable stock-engined RX-8. Pull all the smog stuff off it, maybe but still very finicky.
But it has a phenomenal chassis though, considering the wide opening for the doors. V8 RX-8 would make for a wicked track car.

I was looking into the z3/z4 in may. Many called the z3 a widow maker. Most said the frame wasn't great.

I always liked the MR2 spyder, but they are way over priced in Canada(compared to the equivalent miata). You could get a 2ZZ swapped mr2 in the states for under 10k which people call the poor mans elise.

I'd say Miata or BMW and since you've done the Miata in the past, try something new. Besides, you'll fit better in a BMW.

Not sure BMW is worth the premium you'll pay for everything you'll need for it down the road...

S14 240SX, Miata and S2K would be my front runners for light FR cars. FR-S if you could find a light bump'd one for cheap.
