It's an awesome system, but if it fails, I'm sure there is a battery back up, but if it fails and homer needs to head back to pit lane for a new ipadmirror, what system does he use in the meantime?

His huge brass balls?
Probably just his wing mirrors. The prototypes use only wing mirrors in most cases.

They should make pop out mirrors that automatically deploy in case of system malfunction.

Looks like spaghetti. Hard to tell where the guy is

Tesla Model X will be launching next year with cameras instead of mirrors. Mirrors are a big source of aerodynamic drag. They had to get regulators to agree of course.

You sure? Heard they didn't agree.

Will is be as baldy (lmao, BALSY) as your p85?
march 31st.The 12-member Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, which represents such companies as Tesla, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen, filed a petition today with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration seeking permission to take that leap.
When the brought out the Model X prototype, it had the cameras. Really cool console with rear view either side of the speedo. Later versions of the prototype had mirrors because the regulators said so. Then about six months ago the web site pictures all went back to having the cameras again. Apparently they got the regulators to buy in. At least in the USA anyway.
The Model X will have AWD, so despite being heavier it will be almost as fast as my P85. They are using two motors (smaller one in front) and Elon says that they managed to do this with no penalty in efficiency / range.
I have no plans to buy one. Tesla already has all my money. Would love the AWD though. (There are rumours of a Model S AWD coming.)
That's cool. Not like they are the first to have a concept with cameras, most cars do then they remove them for cost savings and regulations

Yeah, but Tesla doesn't believe in concept cars. Elon thinks it's lame that people show these beautiful cool cars and then the real thing is bland. He thinks the real thing should be better than the prototype, not worse.
Oh, and my Model S is only 12.7 quarter mile. Someone gave me this pic...

I like the suicide doors in the back. Just wish more people would buy them so the prices would come down, then I could get one. with a 300 km autonomy on a full charge, that’s good enough for me.

This is MR, we don't stay on topic.
The mass market Gen III car is supposed to be out in three years.
