    Default Next track car?

I've been half-heartedly looking for a cheap car to put on the track this season or next. Thoughts on this? Any better ideas? Around the $5k mark keeps the wife happy (mods excluded) but I have found that might not be reasonable.

Loved those old poopras. That model had 230 hp/240tq when new I think? The trans and rear end are from one of their SUVs IIRC.
The velour interior is pretty sexy. Those seats look heavy.

A friend of mine had one. A HKS exhaust (down pipe etc) woke it up a bit. They are fairly easy to work on. His ate clutches so we got good at that. His turbo bearings were kind of cooked so he got a Texas turbo stage whatever, then other shit started to break. Side stepping the clutch at 5 k and the resulting wheel hop grenades the arse pretty effectively.

I found that with the old car I bought for the track quite a lot of small sketchy stuff added up to a lot of time to get right (suspension bushings old/dry/rotted, tired ball joints, tired steering rack). Tracking it will shake loose anything that's weak for sure.

When I buy my next track slut it will be less than 10 yrs old

The older Bmr's seem popular/balanced/lots of local support and knowledge.

I wouldnt touch one that age, too hard to find good used parts, and not much demand for aftermarket support.

E36 Bimmer, I think is the best bang for the buck in that budget range. Gut it and racing brake pads, Done.

But there's a bigger point here. The 1-series is the last car that BMW engineered before the Germans, as a car-making culture, fell out of love with driving.

Most of these are under $5k.

I like the idea of a stripped out older Stang. Lots of aftermarket support for them and I would think parts would be cheap.
