    Default I-phone - lapping.

Greg and I where discussing the 'data logging / lapping timer' technology last night. Most of the pro/amateur shit out there is 'retardely' (over)priced.

Just wondering who out there is using an iPhone to get info about their lapping? And more specifically what apps are you using? And finally what is the coolest/shittiest thing about the app?

IIRC this is the one Mattluh uses.

I recall him putting it in my car, while I had the Turn 2 timer on my car as well and they were identical times.

I use the CMSlaptimer...works well enough...but not nearly accurate enough...especially when you are trying to shave a second or less.

If someone smrt wants to help me with the math and logic, i'll put one online for 99 cents. Beta testers get it free =)

I've got it tracking / etc working, its just the stupid detection of a new lap based off previously crossed GPS coordinates that's breaking my head.

Even threw in some "max angle" and "max speed" tags, fun for us bike guys so we'll know where we leaned over the most on a given lap.

Ghey Marc, got some free time??

The ones i've seen, you actually select a point where you want your lap to start/finish and the app will use the coordinates that are the closest to that precise point to do a start finish.

Example: In Bogie, when you are in the pits, select a point near the tower. Everytime you pass by the tower, lap resets.

I dont recall having to do that with Mattluhs (Harrys) he just started it while I was in the paddock, then I went...

Didnt have to do anything. Unless he did something before installing it.

Or he had the start-finish line saved for bogie in the app already?

be also cool if the app can include showing your friends times, and have a best lap time live feed.

Putting into design frame work now. Free apps for MR! so long as you help sell them else where.

Mechs, lemme know if you need help, I have too many projects already on the go so if your going to write one I can toss you some assistance since as I said, I've got everything written but the "detect crossing original point/ start new lap" function

Put app for 99 cents you will make more than if you sell it for 2 bucks, 6 bucks, whatever.. Speaking from experiene with a bunch of my own apps on the store for the past year and a half

I paid 15$ for Harry's lap timer and it was worth it IMO. This app has a lot to offer. I also bought the TomTom GPS car kit. 115$ at Amazon US.

I'm trying to see how I can export and use the data now.

You can copy and paste this link into google earth.

    Or just click this.

Eh, the wonders of being able to develop iphone apps is if you DONT want to pay you just make your own version, and even if you don't sell it you learn a lot and wind up with reusable code for other projects. Hence why i'll give Mechs a bunch of code to build the lap timer if he wants, i've got other projects i need that code for and i KNOW i'll never finish the lap timer

Newb IPhone question here, do you need to have a service provider to use the GPS for lap timing?

Ie: I buy a broken IPhone, can I use it as a lap timer without having to buy a data package.

    I assume not.
