Yup, Nico caused the mess by what appeared to be overbraking. Lewis had to stay wide, and Bottas was a little overzealous... there was no way to make that stick.

Oh, and agree. Kimi's drive was awesome.

Was a great race from front to back. Some really good racing.
Pretty impressive that all cars finished the race.

Driver of the day for me was Kimi.

April 17th, 2016, 11:09pm
Kimi impressed as always. Bad luck. Could've been a podium for him. Vettel wins crybaby of the day.
Lots of great passing all around. Verstappen will be a champ one day.

daft_mx5
April 18th, 2016, 07:10am
Agree about Verstappen.

And the McHondas showed some pace today. Fended off a lot of Mercedes engines when their tires were good.

Force India had a hard time passing them on the straight even with DRS open.
Don't think they are there yet but encouraging.

figo
April 18th, 2016, 08:21am
Vettel knew what he did was a no no, trying to justify and put the incident on someone else, he should man up. He is a great driver, a little more wisdom and he will be more of an opponent to watch out for.

I think it's because he respects (and maybe is scared of) Kimi. Any other teammate and GAF factor would have been nil.

figo

I have to agree, both of them are close and have friendship respect, not the same team mate respect between Seb and Mark

I think he's scared too lol

I would want Kimi as a teammate, Alonso has an opponent, and Jenson as a mentor.

Completely disagree. Lewis was alongside by the time Rosberg started to shut the door. He was not entitle to come across and squeeze him off.

Mario

How about that Max guy!!! :headbang:

Hamilton's fault, way too aggressive. Shit happens when you pull that kinda shit.

Angry Chicken
May 15th, 2016, 04:49pm
Hamilton couldn't make his typical dick move of diving in to a corner too fast and playing chicken with the person already there. Tried to bully his teammate and it all went wrong. Good for Rosberg doing the brave thing and making one single blocking move as the rules allow him to. Max drove a great race and showed that his promotion to the 1st tier Red Bull team was on merit. Nice to see the Renault/Tag Heur engine is finally returned to competitiveness.

Mario
May 15th, 2016, 06:04pm
So the story is Nicco didn't select the right engine mode for the start and once he got going, his engine was about 70km/h slower than Hamilton. It did look like Nicco wasn't moving. Hamilton looked at the gap left and right and he went for the right. Nicco reacted the only way he could I guess. Better reaction than mister nice guy of last year. He wants it this year. You gotta want it if you want to win.

Angry Chicken
May 15th, 2016, 06:33pm
Yeah, I was just reading that too. Explains the speed differential I guess. I don't like Hamilton but to be fair expecting him not to go for that opening was like telling a dog not to snatch a juicy steak bone when it's offered. Agreed that Nico is driving with an edge this year. Good to see.

raggedrabbit
May 15th, 2016, 06:47pm
They both made very poor decisions.

If Nico had pushed the wrong buttons he should have given the line to his team mate. It happened fast, I don't thibk he moved to block, I think he was trying to give the line up so he could sort his car out. Lewis saw something was up abd was just too damn good at filling the whole. Just a mishap, as the team has reported, however unfortunate.

Imagine if Lewis went through then Nico closed the door. Would have pushed the field back ad Lewis would have made a good run for sure.

Yeah, in the Senna documentary, after he crashed it, he left the track for a couple of hours to gather his thoughts. He said when he came back that he came so close to perfection. He was so down on himself. Prost said he just wanted to humiliate him, not just win.. Lol

Never thought I would say it, but I like Vettel more than both of them right now.

They are both immature and whiny if not getting their way, and not team players at all. Hamilton destroying his room like a spoilt rockstar (Bieber) doesn't help.
Don't forget that it is hard enough to be at this level of skill, and we're asking them to be perfect role models.

But lots of great drivers out there that actually deserve top seats like Perez, Hulk, Max, maybe Bottas. All very much able to put fast laps together and make needed passes on course.

All very much able to put fast laps together and make needed passes on course. and not crash into others.

Lots of good passes on Sunday, and when a driver got squeezed out, just backed out and tried it again. I know Max pushed some wide a few times.

I guess we need the crash dramas since Maldonado is no longer there.

Yes, fighting = good. Crashing = bad

It's that 1% difference turning you into hero or zero.

Had Hamilton suffered damage instead, failed to finish and Nico won, they would have praised Rosberg for holding his ground and bashed Hamilton for causing it.

Kind of agree... everyone gets less annoying as they mature, until they start become more annoying again in their senior years (#mcoold)

Alonso can pass cleanly, so can Jenson. Kimi, is clean, but normally because he only goes for the high percentage moves, except for Russia last year with Bottas.

Lewis, tends to be super aggressive, like Montoya, but cleaner than JPM. I like them both for that killer instinct and willingness to go for it. Unless its another Merc, Lewis' passes tend to be pretty clean.

If you guys watch the entirety of SkySports coverage, you'll see a very different Lewis at the end of the weekend than you do at the start. I suspect its mind management for him leading up the race. After the race, he's downright laid-back if it has gone well, or a bit downtrodden if it hasn't. That's wearing your heart on your sleeve, another thing I like about him.

From the team's perspective, the ideal is to have one driver who, in the car of the day, is able to beat all comers. The other driver should be faster than all other teams, but not fast enough to beat the team mate.

From the fan's perspective, and from that of commercial rights holder's, when one team is dominant, those two drivers should be close and be able to fight. See Senna and Prost, Hamilton and Rosberg... The alternative is Schumacher and Barrichelo.

Too bad about the radio penalty. I guess that means the season is pretty much squared up at the halfway mark, with Rosberg now only 1 point ahead. Should make for a tight race to the end.

Mercedes are appealing the penalty. Nico ran a good race and there was some good mid-pack slicing and dicing but overall it was another "Which one of the Mercedes drivers will win?" race. DRS has made the races almost entertaining in parts but until there's more parity between the terms it remains underwhelming IMHO. Technology is what keeps me coming back. That and the chance that Mercedes might have a bad day.

Max did some good defending and some bad, pushing Kimi off track in Les combes when side by side isn't cool, not sure if he went in too hot or just pushed him out, either way it doesn't really give other drivers confidence to race wheel to wheel with him. I did see some great and fair defending by Max tho.

When I saw MAG's car in the wall, I had an instant heart drop moment, saw movement so he was ok, then saw replay and found out he spun and hit another wall before. At first I thought he went straight into Raidillon.
