wing

Well they are slow as balls. But apparently they flip easy and when they do they keep on rolling.

So Aug 15 my goal is to roll a Micra or place in the top 10 at St. Eustache.

At least I get to drive something this year!

All they do is install cage, big slicks, gut, and a suspension tweak from the note apparently.

Flippy flip

The gear box is so sloppy and super tall gears for some reason very sloppy steering also. The one I had was kind of tail happy also which was fun with the bicycle tires they installed on it

+- 1minute lap depending on the car. One back stretch with a chicane that was put in place to slow down to lower speed before entering the oval and not to dukes of hazzard. Anything on the oval gets slippery has fuck when it rains due to rubber left on the pavement. Dont be afraid to be close to pit wall to turn in early into corner 2(pit exit).

Thats all i know from way back... If you need a hand i'm friend with a ASE instructor who knows the track in the same way Greg knows Bogie.

only takes 1 minute to learn this track. if carl doesn't win, the other cars are cheating or they hit him off.

Robin2
August 5th, 2015, 09:02am
it's a decent track.... they repaved it 3-4 years ago? from what I recall?

I did Carl's race school there... it's a handling track for sure...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autodrome_Saint-Eustache#/media/File:Autodrome_Saint-Eustache_(Quebec,_Canada)_track_map.svg

if you're running this configuration, there's some sections tough on brakes especially turn 9 into 10... it was a 140 to 40km/h area.. 13 is decent...... might have a light tap on the brakes.... maybe the micra might be nothing or a lift only.

For 13-15, it depends if its raining or dry...... and if they still use that area for drags (15 to 1).

If it's dry, come out of 14-15 and almost come out to the wall and carry the speed..... if it's wet, stay on the inside at best of 15 as drag section is so slick in the wet.

In most part, the micra won't be braking.... probably just light taps to set up or lifts or simply full throttle....... it's a decent track and there will be lots of overtaking for sure...... if you can brake deep into 9-10, you'll pass so many there.....

Havn't been there for 5 or 6 years, but the track owner use to treat everyone like gold.
When we were running the Cascar, we got a call from the owner a week before the race asking if we were coming. We said no because we were out of money and he asked with a heavy French accent: "what you need?, beer, food, hotel, women..I get them for you"

They built a burnout pad in the campground too...soooo many burnouts.

There may also be a story about some beer, a track sweeper and the frontstrech wall, but that's for another day.

Good luck, and have fun wing!!!!

August 5th, 2015, 11:19am
I had fun there in the chump car, and I did a time attack in the Rabbit, which would be similar to the Micra. You should have a good time, its a Micra sized track and for the power you have it should provide good racing. Lots of hard braking zones and if it rains you will have to hunt for grip. The drag strip start is at the exit onto the front straight in the oval, amongst the concrete walls, #recipefordisaster.

Oh yeah and watch out for the launch ramp...uh pit wall entrance.

That was a butt puckering, sobering moment for sure when we were oval racing at Carl's triple header last year. White line on bottom of the bank very quickly turns into Burnout Revenge launch berm if you are too tight.

The other interesting section was the North-East corner of the Oval (where Corner 12 is on the road race track). The bank doesn't stay linear, it seems to slope away a bit (only for a moment)... I guess to limit the jump effect of people on the road race course. Anyway, during the second oval race we did last year, I stuck to the outside and the rear got a little light going around there leading to some interesting slip angle. Every lap I was watching my shadow disappear, and every lap I wondered if that lap would be the one. Never touched the wall, but oh boy did I ever get close lol.

The old man smacked the wall real hard out of 2 one year. Near the end of a 300 lap race, must been 40 degrees out. He said things started getting fuzzy just before hittin the wall. Earlier in the race a guy passed out cold down the front stretch. Thankfully ended up in the gravel trap off of turn 1. Buried I the sand, bouncing off the rev limiter. Scary times. Gonna have to venture back there sometime.

So it was fun, the car is real shit though, lol. The GT Academy driver said to me when i left "I hope you don't have to drive anything this shitty again." LOL I don't think they were having a good day.

At St. Eustache it was doing the 1 wheel peel EVERYWHERE, literally every corners, sometimes mid corner sometimes on entry, sometimes on the straights.....

It drives like a boat, the suspension is ridiculously soft.

All that said it was still fun and certainly a challenge, I was carrying too much speed in places and I didn't rely on the ABS enough, I should have clued in at some point but in a race I was just trying to not get passed / catch up to the guy in front so I wasn't trying to change my driving habits.

I qualified 17th out of 25 cars I think for the first race, I ran a 1:04:4 something, the GT Academy drivers were running 1:03.7 so I was happy I wasn't too far off their times, they qualified like 10/11 or something.

In the first race I got my time down to 1:04.3 but couldn't find much more. The grid was close, I think from 12th/18th was about half a second time. First race was pretty uneventful... for me.

The other journalist a girl driving for Inside Track, I think she is like 17 or something. Anyways, she drives karts and is in the championship and does well. I assumed I was going to look silly and she would kill me. Nope, she was slow, like ridiculously slow, she never drove a car before. She's driven an F1600, but she said it doesn't have a clutch either.

Okay, figured she would figure it out. Middle of the first race, (Greg saw it I did not but went something like) she hit the grass, spun and smashed into one of the GT drivers. Oh they were not happy me thinks, her day was done.

Second race I started further back, they used your second best qualifying time, I guess mine was shit. I'm a 1 lap wonder not 2 laps. Anyways, started 21st finished 20th, got hit in the last corner and spun that was fun....

Still trying to find that half a second, I'm sure it was into the braking zone in the back corner and last corner, bus stop I started to figure out.

spec series, but I'm convinced the cars are not equal anymore which is to be expected. James drove really smooth but didn't crack the top 15, some of the cars had more camber than others, some bounced differently over the bumps. a few tenths separated each position, so it is still pretty close racing. the last race was very entertaining too. lots of bumping and bangin for spots.

It is amazing what you can do to a "stock" car are really change the handling. Even something minor like preloading suspension bushings can have a big impact.

Even knew of one team that would remove factory bushings, install aluminium, then put a thin slice of the stock bushing on the outside to make them look stock.

Yes.

Jethro
May 19th, 2016, 09:02pm
Raw material is more scarce and more expensive

http://www.autotrader.ca/cars/mazda/miata%20mx-5/on/ottawa/?prx=500&prv=Ontario&loc=Ottawa%2con&sts=New-Used&pRng=%2c5000&hprc=True&wcp=True&inMarket=basicSearch

But there's already 100 Miatas on MR so there's that.

lol.

you need a longer car that isn't the shape of an egg so that you don't roll all over the place.

I don't see how if crashes in this series are so inevitable that there are so many entries. would think as the season goes on you go from 20 cars in the spring to 10 cars at the end of the year lol.

Fucking stupid no pull out on start rule. Guy in front checked up. Entire left side of the grid goes by on the start. I drop from 12-16/17? Pass a few guys on the first couple of laps and then manage the guy behind me.

Ended 13.

Another qualifying in 20min

I'm fucking dying it's so hot.

I can tell I'm slower due to fatigue. Qualified for 2nd with the same time 104.3

Was a tenth off tenth place then lost it, ended up 14.

1 more race in 30 min. Hopefully I can get a good start. After that it's tough to pass so if I can make up a few places on the start, then I should be able to keep them.

Here is the start of Race 1.

I totally f'ed up and used 3rd gear because last year I hit the rev limiter in 2nd instantly, but the pace was super slow at the start so I needed 2nd and the result is 4 cars blew by me on the start. DOH.

I made up 2 places back early on the rest of the race is pretty boring so first 4 min. Oh and I got hit, although the driver complained to the stewards I hit him. IMO he left the door open and then closed it on me.

wing
June 24th, 2016, 11:34pm
Odd. Apparently I DNF? According to the results.

The suspicious part of me thinks they didn't like me being too high in the standings. So make me start at the back, team manager said it was impossible I was underweight, he didn't buy it.

So I cut through the field despite starting last so they DNF me?
