Well that was fun. Car is boosting beautifully and consistently now. It really is night and day, the difference. But I had a slight....ahem, problem today. I have a small oil leak around the turbo and it kinda caught fire. And after a great series of laps, too. I put the fire out myself as the lady Marshall didn't want to mess up my car. Car will be fine on the way home I'm sure but I'll watch it carefully.

Will have to post video later. LOL.

Did you use an extinguisher? If so, hope none of it got into the intake as it will damage your engine. :(

Should be good. I sprayed just the area where the flames were. Exhaust manifold as far as I can tell. I have the car running/idling right now and there are no new flames or CELs

Car is fine. Just took it out for a couple of laps (ie 2!) and no flames. ;-) I think it's the oil supply line.

If you car has a small oil leak and already caught fire once I don't see why you're driving it again if its not fixed. You're risking it burning to the ground. I'd pay to have it towed back to Ottawa, much cheaper than replacing a burnt out car.

I'm home. No fire. Not being sarcastic, btw....appreciate the concern from peeps but it was a calculated risk. I wasn't constantly in the boost like at the track. Highway speeds ya know.

My mechanic says that there was an animal's nest right on top of my exhaust manifold. Pine needles, maple seeds, grass...... He didn't find anything wrong with the oil supply line today and thinks that the fire was caused by the nest. Hmmm. The smoke *was* white and it wasn't smelly and black.

Mechanic said that my turbo hose (charge size) is singed and weak in spots. Spent $650 for that stupid OEM thing just less than 2 years ago and had to have it shipped up from the southern States. Must be dipped in un-obtanium. Only good news is that I have an aftermarket Forge Motorsports one which I purchased at the same time as the OEM one.

Should have caught the squirrel nest during tech inspection no?

Maybe?

Yea, squirrels nest, and a replacement turbo recently? This squirrel build his home over night or something?

dbg

Rodents be fast. In our previous house a vole was getting into the garage. It would build a nest in the same wheel of my truck every night. Every morning I backed out, the nest fell out, and I had to throw it out again. (Took a while to figure out how the stupid thing got in.)

To answer your question (and others') you can't even see the turbo, exhaust manifold or any of that stuff as it's all squished between the firewall and the back of the engine. And it's been over a month since the turbo was replaced. Weird. Crazy thing.

Had car on a very hot Calabogie track last night. Did one stint of almost 30 minutes of hot laps. No fire. That is all.

My BBQ'd turbo hose. It has soft spots all over it and the outer skin is crispy. If it was a sausage I would say it's ready to eat with a bit of mustard and onions.
