View Full Version : 11's finally!!!

Decided to try the new tune out at Luskville this past Sat and finally ran a 11.98@120. Ran numerous low 12's with a best MPH of 122. The ET's suffered though due to crappy 60 foots since the car was bogging shifting into second. Turbo is rather large...

I also realized that my brakes need upgrading since I almost ran into the ditch on one run!

Next visit I will be using the NLTS, launching a little higher(6500 rpm) and upping the boost. All on pump 94, no meth. The goal is 10.99@125.

Not bad for a full weight 2g DSM with ice cold A/C. :biggrin1:

Yes, 4G63 2.0L

Oh man... AWD? I think that Eclipse might be one of my top 5 cars of all time. I changed a head on my friends 2g Talon, it was just the NA 4g63 but what a tough little motor. It seems really seriously designed, with that balance shaft and the hydraulic timing belt tensioner. Anyway, sweet car - I am jealous!

Yes AWD. Ouch, changing a head is not an easy task on these cars, turbo or not.

They're really fun cars but you gotta be prepared for a lot of down time. Also CAA is mandatory, lol.

That's awesome. Ya those cars are sweet eah. Not N import guy but it seems these cars never got old. They can be classy and fast. Gotta ask, could you cram an LS in there and keep the AWD?

Thanks. I don't think an LS is possible but a few guys have rotated the 4G63 motor and gone RWD with a Ford rear end.

The motors can make a ton of power, the problem is putting that power to the ground through the AWD system. It can only handle so much.

No, haven't had time to throw the built motor back in. Hopefully within the next 2 or 3 weeks.

it's the difference between
"I have a 10 second car" vs "I have an 11 second car"

For me the MPH improvement is what really matters. I mean the 11 sec timeslip is nice, but now I want more. Car should be deep 11's with that MPH.

Funny, thats what my car ran at Luskville before the mods. 11.9@120mph. Not sure if I would be able to have gotten it deep into the 11's even though I figured with that MPH it would be.

I was running at best 1.8 60', I should be able to get that down to 1.5-1.6. That should improve the quarter time a bit. Plus the no lifting to shift should also help. Can falls flat on its face going into 2nd. That's atleast 1 sec of spool up delay right there.

We'll see.

Yea i agree. I trapped 116mph and did a 12.3. Would be happy with high 11's.

120mph maybe mid 11's? Regardless. Fucking fast car. What turbo are you running?

Yea, my year Porsche is hard to launch and not known for drag racing so you may be right with all the little things you can do it may be possible for you.

Sounds about right. When I spun the rod bearing in the RX7 it ran 11.0@130 which also matches with what we are seeing for times and traps.

Way too big. Most people always go way to big on the turbo.
Your car is not efficient at all...

That said beautiful car, love that model, always have a sweet spot for DSMs.
Owned many.

Go to a GTX3076R and your car will be much quicked in the quarter mile and you'll have flow for over 600HP.
Plenty to run 10 second 1/4 miles with great shifts and a great start.

What happens with the DSMs is the damn 2nd gear synchro. Unless you have a dogbox or a Shep racing trans it will be very hard if not impossible to slam that gear in at full throttle at 8K rpm. You need a turbo that makes power between 4500-6000rpm or at least 5000-7000rpm. Even 7K is pushing it with stock style synchros...

Also antilag or NLTS between all gears including 2nd is a must. Again, the big problem is 2nd gear synchro so a quick response turbo is extremely important for best runs.

Right now your turbo size probably have a powerband in the 6K to 8K.

p.s. congrats on the runs with that turbo. I know it takes a great driver to run 11s with such a peaky powerband in these cars.

Thanks. The car has a built tranny and shifts at high rpm with ease. I just need to enable the nlts in the aem box and give'r another go. Also, the motor is a built 2.0 and should be able to handle 9k rpm. We'll see what happens... lol

Great job Ali!

Nice to hear you got the car figured out. What management system did you end up going with in the end? (DSMLink or AMS)

Sounds like you definitely need to get that 60' down. I was pulling 1.6's with street tires with mine without the NLTS on. Maybe pick a day at luskville when they are running cars and spraying the track for more traction.

Mouser, its the AEM box.

Paul, its a very similar setup but different car. Man that was a long time ago. We were nuts then.

Well finally got the NLTS sorted out and have it set at 6500RPM. It works great and virtually no delay between shifts but the car is now spinning at the top of 2nd going into 3rd, so, I may need to get some drag radials to stay hooked up. Plus I'll then be able to launch harder and lower the 60' even further. For the time being, I'll lower tire pressure to 20psi at the track. Last time I didn't and ran 32psi spinning when launching.

Not sure when I'll get a chance to hit the track though but I do have a G-tech, yes I said G-tech lol, that I may test just for kicks.

G tech can be accurate. Especially if you have a nice straight road and repeat the run.

Whats it going to take to get your 10sec time? Cut down that 60ft?

Thats strong run with only a 1.9 60ft. Lower that to 1.6 and you'll be dangerously close to 10s

Whats it going to take to get your 10sec time? Cut down that 60ft?

Pretty much that. Just need to find the right combination of tire pressure and 2-step setting. The car did run a 1.779 60' earlier that night but the boost was lower. Netted an 11.88@123.5.

I have run 1.6x 60' with my previous talon so I know it is possible without changing parts.

I also have methanol on tap but for some reason, the knock sensor registers slighly higher knock counts when I use it. Probably dumping too much with the NOS nozzles in each runner. I may switch to a single nozzle in the upper intercooler pipe to see if that makes a difference.
