Help us secure a new lot, but letting City Council know just how big the motorsport community is here in Ottawa.

We haven't lost Lot 9, but we have no idea when we'll get access this year and having an alternative is always good, especially if we can announce a whole seaon's worth of events in March!

I hope we can count on MR.

Damn straight, we need all the help we can get on this. Process is dead simple too:

1) Click your councillor link
2) Add name/address to the bottom
3) Send

Even if you don't give 2 shits about AutoX, please send anyway. More autocrossers means more people moving up to the track. Everyone wins.

Just one thing to add. If you all send the same form letter it will have an impact. BUT, if each person drafts their own version of it, and takes a few moments to draft their own version of the letter showing that each person takes the time and makes an effort to personalize it, it then has much more impact.

The Jim Watson address bounced back.

Jethro

The delimiter in the cc column is incorrect for some mail clients. Check that.

Jethro

Response:

Unfortunately sending mass form letters before even applying to use the facility is a bad approach. While the activity is interesting and the support might be possible, getting mass emails preventing staff from helping residents on other issues cannot be rewarded.

Not to late to do so. We don't know the whole story. Something triggered this action, and usually when organized groups do so, they have their reasons. If the goal was to get attention, they have. Now it's clear this councillor will not fight for you guys. For now. He could be convince otherwise at a later date. The MCO Can't back off now IMO, but receiving 50 emails, max per councillor, is not interfering with them providing a service to others. That's BS.. They only read it once, but they can count how many people that supports this initiative

Generally speaking it's best to go through city staff first, before going political.

Implied it was bulk email, which is stupid because it's coming from different people. Goes to show you should write your own.

schmoo told me they were already told no, hence the campaign. so the math is bent here.

in other news, 1500 people plan to 'hardpark' at trim on may 2nd. apparently since they're not racing, its good to go. I hope casey has the night off.

And then Allan said:

Jeff you have sent the same email to me at least five times today as did another citizen and someone else has sent it twice. We are not experiencing repeated messaging on any of the hundreds of emails we receive.

And then I said:

Allan,

I did not send 5 emails to you. I omitted my address from the original. I sent 2. In retrospect that was a mistake.

The Mayor was much more cordial at Place D'Orleans when I had a brief exchange with him on Sunday.

You won't hear from me again via email or anonymously via a voting card.

Respectfully,

Jeff

I've had a few run ins with Mayor Jim when he was an MPP on Porter flights home. He was always very cordial and polite and interested in our conversations.

I feel it's always better to talk to a politician after you have talked to the right bureaucrat and are not getting satisfaction. This way it's complain. My lake association battled 3 municipal council since I bought my place. We finally won a couple of weeks ago. This conflict lasted over 25 years. Some things can only be won with political will

One could make a strong argument that it keeps the street clean if street racing or just the plain old hooligans. If it works for skateboarders, hell we'll get a real race track

We've made a splash and have asked everyone to hit pause. To set things straight:

- we were in contact with the City and had been given a flippant no
- follow-up contact opened the discussion again, but at no point did someone mention an application
- at this point, the staff who have been dealing with us will be aware of the Councillors getting these emails and they now have our insurance summary in their hands
- if we don't get no follow-up in 1 week, I'll bug the staff again.
- next step will be phone calls to Councillor's Monette, Blais, Hubley and the Mayor
- if we need to, we'll mobilize the community again

We're pushing a big rock up a steep hill, but all we can do is try.

Thanks for the support.

Again, I cannot stress the fact that people need to write the letter in their own words. It will make sure that every voice is heard, and it speaks so much more loudly than a form letter. I have been involved in actions where the city (and prov and fed government) support was needed to help, the actions of a lot of people writing unique letters makes a far louder impact, and will motivate people whom you wish to garnish their support.

No argument, but marshalling that kind of effort is not easy. If we need to let loose the hounds again (something I expect), we'll definitely flag this option to everyone.

Lol, politics

US: go to OC
OC: fuck-off
US: go to council
COUNCIL: you need to talk to OC first
US: we did, got fuck-off
COUNCIL: ok, well fuck-off was not formally documented so... go back to OC and get formal fuck-off?

pay 5$ to stand in a parking lot night. reading it makes you feel old.

but they had to move their night because a country band is playing the CTC and the busses need to bus orleans country people.

so, good to know the bus company can bump a group out at whimsy.
