View Full Version : Nissan GT-R LM Nismo

This is pretty nuts. Nissan is bringing a new LMP1 car to Le Mans this year.

Engine is a turbo V6, front-mid mounted, and probably powering the front wheels. KERS-type system powers the rear wheels. Will probably run without a rear wing at Le Mans.

Lol. A [mostly] FWD batmobile.

Oh, also, Mike from mulsannescorner.com says it may have peak power approaching 2000 hp.

Not just rumors. Front tires are 14" wide and rears are only 9" wide. It looks like a normal prototype but it uses more of a flow thru design than typical aero. It's using a flywheel KERS system called flybrid. A small flywheel spinning 60,000rpm in a vacuum.

Looks like a pretty cool car. Going to be hard to beat Audi first time out though.

The front-engined concept has allowed Nissan to move the weight bias forward in order to maximise traction.

I read that, and think back to these days.

Ehhh, i dunno. Same sorta concept that makes the deltawing work but backwards... Certainly an interesting idea. Only time will tell iff this is a colossal waste of money.

it's still mid/front engine. and I'm sure the crazy aero gives a lot of stickshion .

I love the fact Nissan is the only one thats trying something radical. Too bad about the Deltawing. I hope this thing wins.

Its only beautiful if it wins.

Always cool to see an alternative take on the same problem and the RACER article mentions that one of the challenges with current P1 cars is a lack of front end responsiveness, which is what the designers of this car were trying to address. Of course, they links to GTR marketing can't be ignored either -- Twin Turbo V6, Front Engine, etc.

Whether they found the next default layout or the next laughing stock will be decided during the coming season.

Interesting.

Given the "FWD" drivetrain too, racing lines should be fairly different, like the Delta Wing at Mosport. It was interesting to see turn/ins and where they would pick up speed VS the others. This also meant not being in the clean line all the time.

I love the risk taking and the guts it takes to try this sort of thinking. The car has kind of a goofy look to it, but if it works that may be the new standard. I absolutely hate the cutouts above the wheels. They look like an afterthought. Probly to conform to some regulations no doubt.

Bartron
February 10th, 2015, 12:16pm
Yeah, cutouts are regulatory for lift reduction in sudden yaw incidents. Section 3.4.5: http://www.mulsannescorner.com/2015LMP1.pdf (http://www.mulsannescorner.com/2015LMP2.pdf)

The look of the car is definitely growing on me.

That Nissan is awesome. I love the sound of the close gear ratios. Reminds me of Gran Turismo hehe. Yeah as Wookie mentioned - what is the deceleration sound, regenerative braking?

It sounds like a starship coming out of warp speed, which is appropriate!

That car was destin to fail from day one but was always cool as hell. By failing I mean not win.

wasn't it cuz the hybrid part of the equation wasn't worked out yet?? they had to go to lemans against the big boys with ~600hp or sumthin relatively weenie like that? pretty sure they're still working on it????
