Are there any winter rally races around Ottawa this season? I'll take my son to see one of the races at Capital City but was hoping for something like the Lanark race...in the woods, jumps, etc.

don't be a spectator at the Ice races, enter or rent a seat in a car. your son can cheer you on.

Perce neiges is a good time, spectator friendly. Feb 7th. http://www.rallyeperceneige.com/eng/index.asp

I'd love to get into the winter racing but can't spare the time. I'll slowly bring the family into this...one season at a time :)

What does seat rental for a race cost? I'm assuming this is available only if car owners are unable to run for some reason?

ice races are enduros, multiple drivers per team. varies on team. rental could be 'you bring the coffee and gas' to 100$.

or 3 guys buy a car for 500$, race it, then sell it to scrap for 300$

we have done this for the past couple years: buy a car for $500 or less, drive it until it dies, send it to the scrap yard and recover $200.

I had that little festiva for like 3 years - paid $250 for it.. was SO awesome.

Tons of fun was that ice racing. My first one had some great battling with a certain GVD. Mucho fun.

I had a 99 Honda Accord coupe last season. Currently searching for this year's car.

Just search kijij for cars under $600. Lots of future champs hiding in there.

I looked on the MCO website, and theres not much about rules etc? What safety gear do you need, and what safety mods have to be done to the car. Looks like a blast if there isn' much work involved.

Helmet and stock belts, winter tires, tape the lights....that's about it.

Adding: seriously, it's just buy beater, leave it at the track all winter. Show up and destroy it.

Put your max year as 2007ish to weed out the lease takeovers

Edit: Jon, I thought you were running that Accord again?

Historically, safety gear has been helmets and 3-point belts. This was the grippiest it has ever been, I think, to give you a sense of speed:

More details regarding will be forthcoming. You can use the email on this page to get in contact with 2015 organizer (same guy): http://www.mco.org/cms/index.php/disciplines/ice-racing

We are getting ready for a website revamp which should make finding info easier.

Is that insured?

SNYSS naresh has no interest in going.

yes it is, it's a Lion club event, they have liabilities like everybody else.
low cost, 1 time, spectator friendly event, would raise more money than, aww never mind. :P

What does SNYSS mean?

Why would I have no interest in going?

I always want to know what drives event costs and how certain events can operate at really low cost.
