From Car & Driver

Very interesting an educational article. Highlights: 8 races starting in September 2014. All street tracks. Its a one day event only. 2 cars will to be used by the same driver during a race cause they cannot refill so they just change to a fully charged car! All cars for now are identical for every team but has the series gets more popular over the years, teams will make their own parts. Chassis, engine, battery, whatever like F1. Car weight 1764 lbs (350 more than F1). Top Speed is limited to 140mph and power limited to 178hp during race but car does 278hp which you can use to qualify. 90hp of push-to-pass boost. Does 0-60mph in less than 3 seconds and much more. This is very exciting, especially that they will run in the offseason. hopefully we will get TV broadcast

Heard about this during the KBC. Thanks for posting more info. Really odd with no sound though, may make it hard to watch

I’m sure they will whistle like Hell and if those Michelins are street type tire, cause they can’t change tires during a race, they will scream too. I got no problem with electric cars. I’m fascinated by the whole thing. The future of the electric car will be develop in those races

Not the final car but pretty cool

Looks better then the new Indy cars IMO. I like the explanation for the small tires in the Michelin video. BMW are doing the same with there new electric cars series

the driver thing is weird. I would have thought as electric cars progress the pit stop would include a quick change battery instead of a quick change driver.

Mario

Yeah, you get 30 seconds, so there’s no rush. Safety first. They are not permitted to leave without seat belts attached and stuff. I like the changing batterie idea. Give them a call

But now that I’m thinking about it, its probably because they are huge and part of the car

These guys are clever, if they had too they could engineer something slick. automated forklift tool or something with a cooler name. I'm sure batteries will get smaller one day, probably solar cells and KERS things would keep em running. its cool to watch this evolve.

One day chump cars with prius's?

wing

Most likely but would be more relevant than another car. It's like a bad story for on lookers, look you could have an awesome electric car and buy a spare that way when the juice runs out you just hop in and go. No need to wait to charge... Duh.

Probably more interesting than an 8 hour pit stop to recharge lol

My guess is that they put the batteries low down for weight and are structurally integrated for safety (at ~450 odd lbs they are 25% of the car). Required bracing for a removable pack would have weighed more on top of that. The driver can come in and out in 30 seconds anyhow, why make life difficult?

The cost of having to buy and use 2 cars per race would get me thinkin of a swappable battery setup... Imho, makes more sense as i think that's gonna be the better way in the real world anyways.

Formula E to start next weekend in Beijing Saturday September 13.

In short, formula E will have 10 races in 10 different cities, only street circuits. Everything from practice, qualification and race will happen in 1 day. Should be very exciting. Big names of racing will take part like Prost and Andretti, McLaren, Williams and some like 10 ex F1 drivers

http://www.fiaformulae.com

RDS the French sports network will broadcast all 10 races. I don’t know about the English networks

Wow. That was entertaining. By the 10th lap I was used to the new sound. The pit stops are something different, changing cars in 50 seconds. The end was heart braking for Prost who lead the whole race, but he fucked up. He should’ve changed lines way before cause he had to expect that Heidfeld would make a move on the last turn. Next race November 22 in Malaysia. That’s a long wait

What crack are you smoking. 200 years worth in the tar sands, several hundred years worth in a few seas like arctic. Then there is bio-diesel, E85, bio-ethanol etc... Lot of sources of fuel to burn in an internal combustion engine.

People get "peak oil" wrong. We're not going to run out of oil. It's not how much oil is left; it's how fast you can extract it. The easily extracted stuff is getting tapped out, and we're having to go to more and more difficult methods of extraction - deep offshore, oil sands, fracking, etc. Costs go up and rate of extraction goes down.

Once the supply falls short of the demand, things get very messy - demand rises above supply, prices spike, economies go into recession, recovery, lather, rinse, repeat.

We were flirting with a supply crunch for a while; the lingering effects of the last recession and the fracking craze have held it off.

March 14th, 2016, 11:02am
Had to google it... sounds dumb.

The FanBoost is a concept introduced by the FIA in the Formula E Championship to give the three "most popular" drivers a temporary boost in power in each ePrix.[1] Fans vote for their favourite driver through the FIA's website (or official accounts on social media), to give three drivers a 100 kJ boost in power in the second half of the race.[2]

Its on the same level as the Nascar Chase format. Its has nothing to do with Racing. Its all about TV ratings, and fan interactivity. As a Racer I hate it. As a fan, it sure makes things more interesting (more the Chase than this fanboost)

I don't think nascar has anything that nutty. Sounds more like american idol voting than nascar.

TransAm series tried something similar years ago, drivers got more points if they did more social media work. It didn't last long.

I meant the fact that a Nascar Driver could literally win every single race of the year except one and finish 4th in the championship. I agree it isn't quite as silly as fans voting on it, but its all for the entertainment value moreso than the racing
