I have been watching videos of Mosport runs and see a lot of guys wearing driving gloves. Is this something that I should pick up or it is a mainly decorative item? Best place to get them if they are a good idea?

some people get a pair of dedicated mechanic gloves.

try before you buy the other ones bc they are not cheap and they fit weird.

From racing I'm so used to my racing gloves. Almost don't go on the track without my OMP gloves.

I tried wearing my motorcycle gloves before, but I felt like a tool. Good to have the knuckle armor in case of track-rage fisticuffs though...

My GF bought me some Alpinestar shorties one year as a gift, I was a little concerned about the douche factor, but now that Ive been using them for a few years it feels weird to drive without them. I like the grip they provide.

I've got K1 racing gloves for the track and always drive with them. The grip and feel is phenomenal... Plus it cuts down on shifter blisters...

All these points are good. I'll add the fact that your hands might get sweaty and the heat off your shifter ball might burn you. (Does for me)

But the real reason you see racers do it is Becasue Race Rules!!!

I assume this is for winter events? Might get a little toasty in the summer...

No, they get real sweaty in the summer but better sweat in glove than on steering wheel.

You can prob. get them for a hell of a lot less than what Goji sold me his for.

I was always anti gloves but Carl from Perry Performance let me try his for an AutoX. It takes some getting used too (way more grip), but now I feel weird driving without them.

Plus, they're fire-resistant :)

I'm back on this again...I will likely just buy some mechanix gloves until I figure out how often I'll be on the track. But if I want to try on a selection of 'real' gloves where would I go? One of the motorcycle shops?

Nomex gloves are expensive, usually around $200 which is ridiculous considering you can get suits and shoes for that price but ... anywho.

I've always liked driving bare backed, more feel that way.

K1 race gear has full nomex gloves for 65 bucks... Sfi rated. I LOVE mine. Also working on a group. Buy right now.... 30 per pair, let me know if you want some. Their sizing charts work great... Or at least they did for me!

+1 for group buy interest.

I've been using golf gloves for the past year, they have served me well. As a bonus, having to purchase them indivudually allows you to get unique sizes if required :D

I thought of racing shoes as well but then realized that GM gifted me with a gas pedal from an OC transpo bus and a brake pedal from an 1989 Cavalier. I could drive this car with mukluks on.

If you want to get into racing, you're required to wear gloves. Might as well get used to it now.

I have the Oakley ones...no complaints...three seasons of racing and still OK. They sucked in the Miata with its leather steering wheel...not enough grip. They are awesome in the RACECAR with the suede wheel

$80.00 for the Gforce G5 Nomex racing gloves, not a problem to bring them in for a test fit. Or you can go with the G1 non nomex also.

The G5 gloves looks like they have a much better grip area than the K1 set.

Is it worth $45 more though? I think getting it locally through No Limits and being able to try them on just might be worth the extra expense...

Yep, always the biggest advantage to buying local, If it dont fit, we send it back. If you want me to bring in a pair, I can get them for tomorrow, if we can get a few sets, im sure I can get some extra discount to pass on.

I just brought in the new carbon fiber helmet from Gforce, wow she is light. Got it down to $378.00

Damn you! I was just telling my wife that I was getting headaches at each track event last year and assume that the helmet is the culprit. I don't think the boys at the Good Times centre fitted me properly when I bought it (or my head got bigger, one of the two).

I'll let you know when I'm ready to move on either...I'm going to have to get the helmet properly sized and see if my headaches are related.

you can either adjust the padding or push any tight spots with the back of a spoon and see if it helps before spending money.

Thats the old model, that's their clear out the stock price. If the big purchase goes through, Looks like it will be their brand new gloves, and they will be down as low as $27, plus all the frieght should be taken care of by the big order. Then you'd only get hit for taxes.

Big Purchase was made through speedmerchants with OMP gloves. These will be available at a discounted rate through speedmerchants if you are a GT club member. But of course i would shop around with MANL and K1 as well.
