View Full Version : Calabogie Cup Weekend - GROUP BUY

Mechs02
July 30th, 2012, 02:27pm
Hey Guys:

Looks like registration is a little low, so i proposed that the track do a group buy for peoples like us, and they agreed!

Here are the deets, 10+ guys sign up in a group buy and we will get $100 knocked off the price of the admission fee.

Proviso: Unfortunately not to be combined with other deals, i.e. guys who already have discounts from signing up for the GT series. Not sure if other GCs will be allowed in conjunction, but im sure they'd work something out.

I'm in! Anyone else interested? Let me know if you have friends interested too... we can get'em on the list.

We at CMP are very happy to include the Gentlemen’s Race in this premier weekend. When we presented the first Gentlemen’s Race in 2010 we were amazed at the popularity and support the class received. Details are in the supplementary regulations below, but this class is open to anyone who has soloed at CMP and wants to take a preliminary step towards wheel to wheel racing. All passing is controlled by the car being passed, a point-by is required before a pass is allowed and we do watch and blue flag to indicate passes should take place, and black flag if a pass is not given or if a pass is taken without a point-by signal.
We have transponders for rent for the weekend if you don’t have one (for timing and scoring), and there are trophies at the end of the Sunday 60 minute enduro.
Registration:
Race Weekend – Click Here (http://imsagt3cupsupportseries.eventbrite.com)
Registration for the race weekend is $425 + HST. Please complete all driver and car information on the registration form so we can set up everything ahead of time and get everyone signed in quickly at the track.
Test Day – Click Here (http://imsagt3cuptestday.eventbrite.com)
There is a promoter test day on Friday August 10, 2012 with four sessions reserved for 944 Cup, Formula Libre and Gentlemen’s Race competitors respectively. The cost for the test day is $300 + HST.
Schedules:
TEST DAY (http://www.calabogiemotorsports.com/downloads/calabogie-test-day-schedule.pdf) – Friday August 10, 2012
PROGRAM OF EVENTS (http://www.calabogiemotorsports.com/downloads/calabogie-driver-schedule.pdf)- August 11 & 12, 2012

Rules and Regulations:The Gentlemen’s Race will be run under CMP Lapping rules, meaning no passing without a point by from the car ahead. Marshalls will be blue flagging, if you ignore the blue flag too many times you may be penalized. Marshalls will be trying take into account good dicing between drivers and will only blue flag cars that are obviously holding up the car behind.
Passing is by point by only, one point by per car. If you are the second car and don’t see a point by, you must wait until you do.
In the gentlemen’s race, it is expected that politeness will rule. Better known as “after you, Alfonse”, if a car is on your tail for two corners, you must let it pass. If you are able to stay with that car after the pass, then it will be required to let you re-pass after a couple of more corners. Under no circumstances is a pass to take place without a point by signal. Point by’s may be given anywhere except at the apex. Once you give the point by, you must let the car pass, you may not out drag it to the next corner.
Passing without a point by will result in a black flag, a warning will be given in the pit lane and a second violation will result in disqualification from that session.
Blue flags will be used to indicate a closing car. Repeated disregard for the blue flag will result in a black flag and a drive through penalty, so it’s not worth disregarding the blue flag.
This race is intended to introduce people to racing without the danger of car to car contact and drivers are expected to keep other’s safety in mind the whole time. We will do our best to not intrude on the racing with the blue flags but keep in mind that this class is a fun introduction, not the Montreal F1. Safety is paramount and we will pull anyone driving in an unsafe manner.
This is intended to be a fun weekend and camaraderie is important. While stewards may call a driver to the tower, there is no protest process in place for this weekend, the trophy just isn’t worth that much.
Qualifying: Groups will have a 20 minute qualifying session on Saturday to determine starting order for the Saturday race. Race results from Saturday will be used to determine starting position for the first Sunday race, race results from first race on Sunday will be used to determine the grid for the second Sunday race, however the top six finishers from first Sunday race will invert for the start of the second Sunday race (6th will start first, 1st will start 6th and so on).
Refueling: There is no refuelling allowed in the hot pit lane, all cars are expected to complete the races without refuelling. If refuelling is necessary, the car must exit the track and refuel in the designated refuelling area in the paddock.
No Mandatory Pit Stop: There is no mandatory pit stop. Driver changes are permitted in the hot pit if desired, with the engine turned off during the driver change.
Pit Lane Speed Limit: Pit lane speed limit is 60 kmh
Gridding: All gridding is in the main paddock along the pit lane fence. The grid will be in two rows if necessary with a lane between the rows to allow cars to pass through. Cars face west, enter the pit lane from Gate A (in front of tower). Cars exiting track will either enter the paddock from the east gate or continue to pit lane but hold on the concrete short of the split for Gate A.
We will grid this way for all sessions: practice, qualifying and race.
Release from Pit Lane: All cars on mock grid at the start of the session will be released through Gate A and onto the track. For cars showing up late to a session, they will proceed through Gate A and enter the track under the control of the pit out Marshall. It is a hot pit, however the marshall will hold a car if traffic is approaching. This is the procedure for practice and qualifying. During qualifying, it is particularly important that the Marshall hold a car if a car is approaching on the front straight in order to not impact the qualifying run of the car on track.
During the race, anyone late to grid (inside 5 minutes) will be gridded at the back, in the order in which they show up. Late gridding is at the grid marshall’s discretion, if at all possible, cars will be gridded in their proper spot. Once the mock grid has been released from the pit and the last car has left the pit, anyone showing up late to grid will be held at pit out and released once the field has passed pit out. Timing and scoring will need to be informed in order to properly account for the missing pace lap (this car will appear to finish one lap down as it will NOT pass the start finish line at the start of the race)
Race Start: Due to the point by passing rule in the Gentlemen’s Race, all starts will be single file and there is no passing on the start. The pace car will lead the field around and release them in the same fashion as the other races, however the field will remain in single file. On the start lap, there will be NO PASSING UNTIL THE EXIT OF T4 to avoid the chance of contact or chaos. Cars should be sorted out somewhat by the exit of T4 and passing can start on Rocky Road after the start.
Protests: There is no protest mechanism in place for this weekend. It’s a fun weekend, remember?
Trophy Presentations: The award presentations will be at the end of the day on Sunday, after the last race. Awards are for the last Sunday race, and we will have awards for Open Wheel, Sports Racer and the Gentlemen’s Race. The presentation will take place at the Track Map near Gate A in the paddock.

I said I would commit to this race weekend.

I need mo' money and a car.

Leaving for vacations this Thursday with the family. I will only be able to deal with my fawkn gas tank when I comeback on Thursday the 9th.

I know you don't need to hear the pain, but so far this year the car has cost me $1600 more than I expected. If this gas tank thing costs me another 5 bills I am out.

I need this to cost less than $200. Go welding baffles.

So I am a last minute fuckn deal... m'k?

Lizard King

The bucket bath is the shits. Seriously cool that my kids are into these weird things.

As for gas tank... uhm your pick.

- because the basket holding the pump a stock GT pump in place is no longer in place. No idea how they got that plastic basket welded in place.
- because GT pump /sending unit is 10 years and has been tossed around for the last three weeks. Found a nice little filter in the corner. I wonder what shit could have gone through, the tube that connects to the oustide looks worn out from being tossed around (plastic tube), electrical is fucked (only one wire, but it needs to be 'reconnected')
- because free cobra pump (holds by the hat, so much simpler)
- because welding baffles seems to be simpler option, then welding a plasic basket back in place. PLUS baffles would make the car not run out of gas in long corners...
- because a COBRA opens the door to mo' powar. (regardless of if I do this myself, it is a sellable feature?)

I normally run a 275 40 17, but the toyos are huge... compared to their size, and are good for an 8-9.5 in rim. I run 8.5s front and 9.5 rear, good stretch on the tires for low lateral shear. in hoosiers i run a 265 -275

LOL that wasn't rain, it dried up! I kept to the rain line for the first few laps while you doofuses drove the regular line but I was watching Greg in my rear view like a hawk. Then it got dryer and dryer and I put the hammer down.

Greg will do well in the rain with all those nannies on board and his smooth driving.

I remember in the qualifying Erwan was kicking my ass in the rain.

I do have conti extreme wets which will be better than slicks but if it's just sprinkling they are no good either... fun times.

I should be able to run better than 2:24 wasn't very happy with that, I need to use more track in a few places. Richard was running 2:20 in the bogie mustang. He came out of nowhere, he said I faster than him on the straights so I should be faster as I'm sure my car should corner better than a mustang right?

In the race I ran 2:24 every single lap at least I'm consistent if nothing else.

I.think the most fun was Greg pulling on me until ten then I would catch him from 10 to quarry. So we were even overall

Those are the qualifying times. My best lap time in the actual race was 2:30.5. Boo for running on 5 cyl and I gambled and ran on my wet tires, instead of slicks. I figured (before I realized my car was fooked) that if it rained... even a bit, I'd kick butt. Alas.. it was dry as a bone. Well, except for my 5th cyl. :(

Shattering racecar drivers dreams once again... I'm sure that must have raised some eyebrows from the pits.

Good stuff Greg!!!

what raised the eyebrows were the results and times from the first race. I put the nittos back on, why waste the good rubber for no trophies. now I'm running 2:24s.
It was great, it made richard and porsche guy switch from slow tires to their best tires, they ran away with it in the next race. Race 2 richard was on to my plan, he put streets on and hung back. I hung out with wingers in 4th. why waste energy for nothin. statergy friends! save yer good shit for the hardware. fast forward to the finale..

It rains hard as we took the green flag for the cup finale tonite, everyone on slicks.. omg omg. I'm ready to give up, this is dumb, standing water, blue sky, so weird. Geoff n Richard have more balls, I'm in third, Harrysteenbaker wants my position, damn, I speed up, chasing geoffs line, he found something. we're racing at 80km/h. lol.

pace truck comes out because they know this is dumb. we pace a few laps because the rain has stopped and were just waiting for lake bogie to wash away.

greeen!!! Harrys all over me, geoff and richard take off.. dang, must find grip..... pulling away from harry now.

I'm gaining on richard, he's got michlines slicks, me on my hoosiers, wet track, wow. I've got grip in temptation and quarry.

pass richard, look at the clock?? frig 5 minutes left, theres geoff!! go time!!

pass him, clearly they gave us extra time because of the caution laps, awesome, not sure how much longer we have but its go time.

so intense, on the edge searching for grip, best lap in finale a 2:32, finished 29 seconds ahead, again I need a radio guy. you just dont know.

Niiiiice save dude, that was before the pace truck came out I guess eh?

I have had an entire season of driving on shitty tires and for the last race I threw on some of those used R888s from that dude in montreal.... FUUUUU, I was almost sticking better in the rain than I have be on slicks in the hot. 1 lap of the race, went from 5th to 3rd in GT2.... Boom the great flood shows up... Holy shit this is feeling good, ok full course caution...

Holy shit now its really coming down... Why aren't we going fast enough for my rainx to work.... Holy shit now I'm foggin up!! Ok well if I move my head side to side rapidly I can make out the glow of tail lights in front of me, crazy even at 30mph!

Ok there's the safety truck catching the gt1 boys now.... Now for (what I didn't know yet) 20 minutes of finding rain lines... Give some space, scream through corner off line... Everything felt great, almost went off in 6... Nope wrong line!!

Coming across pit out I see the marshall saying only one more caution lap, so I start to get my head back in the game, stop thinking about groceries... Boom as I come around 20 green was already dropped, I'm on it hard and pass Guy before we even get to the start finish line, next up, the 300C, ex rally driver and only came second the greg in rain quali yesterday... Here we go!!! No prob, coming out of corner 4 I was walking him, he gives me the point by! Boom, well let's see what we can do now!

Next up was bogie mustang #55, he was slow, but I had to pick my spot. I had huge momentum coming up 6 with my secret cambered spot, so I come out of 7 like a rocket, he gives the point but doesn't slow and stays on-line on the right, no prob, ill pass on the left... Not my line but that's what makes it fun, so I come screaming into temptation at dry speeds, on the left... SHIT left is a fucking lake in the braking zone.... 4 wheel lock up!!! Slowwwww down!!! Just enough for a messy line through temptation...

Now its starting to dry, I can see third place in GT1 but can't catch him in time.

Took first place GT2 by 25 seconds and 4th overall! Overall fantastic race for me! So stoked for the next gentlemans now that I have tires!!

Oh I need to find out who was taking pics in temptation, when I new I was far ahead of GT2 and not going to catch GT1 I dialed it back a bit, and started putting on a show in temptation, showed her my tail lights a few times... It just felt so comfy out there!

Sorry you guys missed it, this was the most epic cup weekend ever!

It seems like you could hear th rev up for a second before you'd let off e, maybe don't hear it in you helmet? Ah, needs mxhaust noises!!

I can hear it fine. I let the gas off more than 1/2 way, but I was hydro planing like crazy. I knew it was still spinning and I never did let my foot of the gas completely, it just eventually found some grip. At that point, I said, fugit, and let Richard have 2nd place.

I waived at the photographer in Temptation too. Don't know who it was. Should be some nice pics.

Here's my little write-up.

What a fantastic time this weekend! It seemed like turn out was going to be low, but only because there was a limited amount of commitments made from us "forum" guys. Turns out, there were ~18 entrants, so we were divided into 2 groups. GT1 and GT2, based upon qualifying times.

So much happened that it's difficult to put down in a single post here. I couldn't make the early morning practice session on Saturday, but did the qualifying on Saturday, the first race on Saturday, and both on Sunday. The first race only determined qualifying positions for the second race, which in-turn decided the starting positions for the 3rd and final race. What I didn't know (Because I also missed the early Saturday driver's meeting) was that the first 6 positions were going to be reversed in the final race. Doh!

I qualified 2nd (Behind Mustang err... Z06 Greg) with my personal best time of 2:23.1 after the first qualifying session, and then made a last minute decision to run on my wet tires (Toyo R1R, full depth) for the first race. It poured rain over lunch time and it looked like it was going to rain again.

Not only did it NOT rain, but I ended up with water in Cyl #5, so the car ran like crap for the entire race. I wasn't sure what was happening, but figured it had something to do with the water, because the car was left out in the rain for the torrential downpour! I thought it'd dry out, but it never did. Guy P (VWaholic) helped me diagnose the problem (and some emails back/forth to Arek W) and found water down in the spark plug hole. We got it dried out and it ran fine after. Huge Thanks to Guy.

So, race #2 Sunday morning. Car ran great. I'm back on brand new Continentals. Good tire, but not quite as good as the Hoosiers I corded the previous week because of a lack of camber in the front. (Going from -3.5 to -4.25 camber helped my front tire wear a tonne) I got second in that race, behind a crazy GT3 car. Dude had only been to Bogie 2-3 times before, so his times were crappy at first, but got down to 2:22's by day 2. What I didn't know, is that Greg (1morlap) and James (Wing) were sandbagging, so they tried to both get 6th place, to start first in the last race. Asshats! Anywho, James' car started blowing oil so he didn't run in the last race. He did jump in with the slowest driver out there for the final race, but that's an entirely different story.

So, instead of starting 5th, I started 4th. Greg, Guy and myself were watching the weather radar all day and shittalking each other (may have been mostly me, trying to get in Greg's head as he qualified originally with a 2:18!!!! on Hoosiers!!! So, I knew he was going to be fast. So, race starts... we get behind the pace truck for the first lap. Everybody is on dry tires, because the weather radar shows a VERY LIGHT SPRINKLE if anything. Pace truck pulls in, green flag! GO! drip, drip, drip WOOSH. Fuggin' torrential downpour. We weren't even 1/2 way through the first lap and it was pouring rain. All of us on dry tires. I made my way to the front of the pack because nobody was too sure about grip. It was pissing in some parts of the track but just starting in others, so I pushed like crazy in the bits that were still mostly dry. So, 3 laps in or so, and I'm leading... Then, we get a full course yellow. I thought someone had gone off. But, because it was raining so hard, they did it for safety reasons. We must have done 10-11 laps at 50kph. I couldn't see shite because my window fogged up. I have no heater controls in the car at all, but I couldn't reach the window to wipe it either. So, I actually undid my seat belt every time up Rocky Road, and wiped it with my hand. That helped, for like, 10 seconds! Crap. Can't even see the pavement to try to find out where the puddles are, or some sort of wet line.

Pace truck stayed out until the rain let up and luckily for me, the sun came back out and I could magically see again. So, I had to use my first few laps trying to figure out new lines. There's NOBODY behind me, and since we've already been out for close to 40 minutes, I'm figuring, I got this in the bag! I just kept farting around looking for lines, keeping it on the track. But, as it starts to dry, I see the faint sight of a gawddamned Vette in the mirror. Ruh Roh! Go time. I start pushing more and more, but I'm on the edge already. Greg blows by me. Dammmned Hoosiers! So, that's fine.. I'll take second... NOPE, I see Richard L'Abbe (SP? One of the owners) in the Bogie Mustangs coming up behind me. So, I start to push again. I realized I'm on the edge of grip everywhere, but I can't give up 2nd too. So, have a look at the video. That's me pushing JUST a little bit too much. Once I did that, I let him pass on the front straight and just kept my safe speed and wrapped up 3rd.

Epic, epic battles. Crazy amount of fun. I'm considering only doing track schools and these races next year. Probably register for the entire season.

Anthony, making the best of it, the lotus cracked the header on Saturday, he came back sunday with his friendsM3 race car, and it broke in 2 laps, so he went home and got the lambo. but the rainstorm ruined his fun. too bad, that would have been fun to see.

Fuck off with the truly awesome weekend already.

No really. Jealous. Looks like the STANDARD ISSUE EPIC CALABOGIE CUP WEEKEND.

BTW. I just want to say I called out the sub 2:2X for Greg months ago.

During my family vacation at the LAC a L'eau Claire we had an interesting moment. Sitting down getting ready for breakfast on the first day there in my 'chalet's kitchen. Looking out the patio windows at the back, facing this fantastic lac. Julien is playing in the back yard with squirels. I hear this whirling noise... Julien runs at the patio screen.

"HELICOPTER. IT's gonna land here.".... i'm like "YOU LIE SON!"

He's like "NO WAY. YOU EYEBALL THIS NOW POPS!!"

The whole family walks up to the patio door.

NO F'N way. Helicopter landing in our yard.

I immediately thought James was visiting.
