Chump Car was @ Calabogie this weekend - back to back 7 hr enduro races.

The calabogie peeps ran a rental chump # 11 this weekend, the Hill bros ran #00 civic and Klaus was ripping up the track in the nicest $500 BMW I have ever seen.

Engine swaps, axle changes, wheel bearing swaps, and 15 minute brake jobs were happening here and there.

A few pictures - more to come...

The engine came out of this civic in about 50 mins.

swapping essentials...all these guys were the drivers...short straw drives the next shift?

Klaus! This BMW was quick! All the Beemers seemed to dominate the field.

This looks like a shitload of fun.

Next year? Anyone?

Nice to see you out there Jeff, cant wait for the pictures.

This was soooo much fun, two times 7 hour racing in old clonkers is nuts and amazingly, most cars survived. It was clean and hard racing at times, very fair and hardly any contact. No accidents or crashes, just some mechanical issues, NO Yellow on Saturday and only one short yellow on sunday because one car blew up and left some oil on the track that needed cleanup ... never happened before at Chump Racing events.

Our car is an old, but clean E30 ... from the outside. My friend used it as DE car for several years but it was sitting in his backyard for 3 years and it was pretty sore under the skin. Cracked frame and rebuilding this was only one of the many jobs we had to do.

At registration they estimated the value a bit higher and we got 18 penalty laps. This of course is impossible to make up, but we had fun, best racing ever for me.

Just about everybody from the CMP Management was racing ... we are definitly in for another one in September at GRand Bend.

I would SOOOOOOOOO be in for doing a Chumpcar race.

I am a licenced Honda/Acura tech, formerly licenced scrutineer (CASC and FIA), have been a Crew Chief for a pro Grand Am team, and have many years of racing experience. I also have a truck and 26' enclosed trailer to offer the team.

If anybody would be willing to let me build/race with them, let me know.

I found some good Chump Car/Lemons info yesterday - bookmarked @ home - how to set up the team, what you need, how to document AIV (average internet value) and some guidelines. Will post it up later.

Basically - according to the people who do this - you need 18 lbs/HP to stay out of the way, and 15 lbs/HP at least to podium. The AIV doesn't have to be our local AIV.

The average investment is between $1000 - $2000 per person - depending on the number of people on the team plus what could be a serious time commitment.

Again - that depends on what you start with and how many parts you have already.

Drivers need a race license as well.

I have a Sawzall.....

What level of licence and from who?

The ugly assed NX2000 that Bill Rogerson sold would have been perfect.

I thought the whole point was that you didn't need a license for this... hmmm...

You mean Bruce? no, that thing's cage is NOT safe.

If you meant Bill's MR2, then yeah, maybe - i don't know much about that car.

How about get your own racecar running, and then you want to go chumpcar too? Sigh.

I saw a few references to race licenses...I'll collect the links I found and post them up. Only going on what I read - maybe Klaus has better info because he actually participated.

Maybe chumpcanada doesn't have that rule? Dunno. Lots of time to think about it at any rate.

I saw the post on MCO about the $700 entry for the entire weekend (one driver was out) I would have totally been in!

Depending on cost I'd do this -- have license, need to go buy some equipment so Chris can have his back LOL

no fucking way.... me and a guy at work had that car for slush n' slide in 2009 and sold it to some hillbilly after.. I cut the gaping hole in the front bumper to mount 4 8" rally lights, and then we decided not to do the night event. That's awesome!

When I was there on Saturday, #88's engine was spread across the parking lots in little bits. That can't be good for lap times :)

Chump car photo set uploading...should be 250 images when it's done...just started now...I deleted the obviously crappy pics but a few marginal ones are probably still there.

The race license is not needed, but you have to take a course the evening before the race if you dont have a license. My CACS 'B' license was acepted.
