Just got the most amazing invite in my life!

Hi James,

Mazda Canada is thrilled to confirm that we have built a Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC) Official Media Race Car that will participate at all of CTCC’s event weekends this season. The race car is a purpose-built Mazda2 and will compete in the CTCC’s new entry level category, B-Spec Class. We are reaching out to various media and celebrities who may be able to best represent Mazda and CTCC and handle the challenge of racing in CTCC.

We would be honoured if you would accept this invitation to participate in the event at Circuit ICAR on June 23/24. You will have our full support on the track, in the paddock and at the media centre, and Mazda will cover the cost of your travel, accommodations and meals.

Please review the following important items;
· There is a requirement to have an ASN Canada FIA National Race Licence to participate in any CTCC event weekend. See www.asncanada.com (http://www.asncanada.com/).
· There is a requirement to have the following personal safety equipment while participating in any CTCC on-track session;
o head protection - a helmet with a rating of SA 2005 or SA 2010 AND a HANS (Head And Neck Support)
o body protection - a firesuit with a rating of SFI 3-2A/3 or SFI 3-2A/5 and fireproof underwear OR a firesuit with a rating of higher than SFI 3-2A/5
o fireproof gloves, fireproof boots, fireproof socks, fireproof balaclava
· There is a requirement to acknowledge that you will be participating in a motorsports competition event and accept the associated risks. A waiver will need to be signed.

If you are interested in participating, please let us know at your earliest convenience.

We look forward to seeing you on the track!

FUCK ME -- I was going to take the school in the spring but decided it was pointless if I didn't have a ride as I'd have to renew with a new school yearly anyways.

Holy shit dude what an opportunity! Its a shame about the license, would have been nice to have more than a 2 weeks heads up lol

wing
June 6th, 2012, 01:26pm
I know right? Like WTF ask me in April and I would have taken the school! FUCK FUCK FUCKY FUCK.

I don't know if it is even possible but if I can I'm going to try to make it happen. Maybe I can get in for the bogie race Sept 1 & 2 that would make it the most EPIC ever!

AWESOME invite. Are you going to be able to find a way to do this?

1Morelap
June 6th, 2012, 01:28pm
Look into it, can't someone applying for a license be monitored by the stewards? Must be a loophole. I don't think you need to renew every year either? killer offer.

RandomHer0
June 6th, 2012, 01:28pm
Yeah just tell them straight up about the licensing, you'll get it done and would like to participate at a later event.

Mechs02
June 6th, 2012, 01:29pm
You have to renew every year that you dont participate in at least one race.

I did my license a few years back, but never participated in a series... so no license for me.

wing
June 6th, 2012, 01:29pm
I e-mailed Pat, also posted on MCO. If there is a possibility (although the 23rd is really soon) I want in. I don't have the HANS or suits and shit either but I've got a credit card or I'm sure some willing people to lend so that's the easy stuff.

And I guess I go see the doctor for a medical -- only the license !

If you need gear/HANS, I can lend you. I think we are about the same size, I am 5'11, 170.

Hopefully you can get away with being monitored by a steward. Have you looked into doing a Bridgestone school or something similar? They are running all the time so you may be able to sneak one in.

Also, that is a National FIA licence required, not just a standard licence required for regional racing. You may need several events to qualify for a National licence.

I find the eye test to be the biggest pain...$200 bucks to say I can see well enough to drive. + insurance won't cover the test.

wing
June 6th, 2012, 07:48pm
Oh shit, I can't see shit LOL

But I wear contacts for driving then I'm good to go. Why wouldn't insurance cover the eye test is it a special test?

wing
June 6th, 2012, 08:04pm
I found the form, why wouldn't your regular eye test cover the medical? Just looks like regular stuff -- although I suppose the doctor may want to charge you extra to check the stupid boxes. Or does it all have to be done by 1 doctor? I'm due for an eye test anyways, I should have had one last year and I never did it so I should book that, problem with my eye doctor is it seems I need to give her 6 months notice!

Doctor: Email my wife. (you have PM, maybe I can put in a good word for you)

License: If Bruce can't root for you with Nick, then there is pretty much nothing else you can do. I have seen you on the track and putting my instructor hat on, I would say that you have all the mad skillz. What you need to do is have the knowledge of the rules that are presented at the CASC-OR school. What would go in your favour would be to offer to take the exam, maybe even take a crash course on the content that we provide at the CASC-OR school... or at least read the rule books cover to cover and say that you are willing to at least take the test to see that you are aware of what all the rules are. We often pass people with a failed exam, but they still require a rewrite before getting their license.

So, definitely talk to Nick, and say that you are willing to do whatever it takes, and really, I suggest that you offer to take the written test. Go on to the CASC-OR web, download the rules, and read all about the roles and responsibilities of officials, the flag - specifically the flags, and all that. The exam has very few rules about 'cars' and the rules in regards to making sure that you prepare a car safely to the rulebook. The exam is more about flags, officials, etc. If you are friends with the Armstrongs, then I would also say that you should contact Cindy.

wing
June 6th, 2012, 11:03pm
Thanks, Rob I'll contact you in the morning. Bob knows me well (from journalist events)... Bruce agreed to give me the low down on rules. I agree, I totally should take the test, just need a crash course and away I go!

tellum
June 6th, 2012, 11:05pm

JettaRacer
June 6th, 2012, 11:12pm
I have the chart deck from the CASC-OR school (and the exam,) considering that I just lectured the practical stuff this spring at the CASC-OR school and was basically Bob and Cindy's right hand man to keep everything straight and level, I may know what I'm doing here as well. Come see me as well if you want I can coach you and go through the chart deck. Best yet, Cindy, she can also administer the test! Having Bruce and Cindy rooting for you, in my mind, is worth more than a letter from Pat or Steve. You do need to show that you are a CASC-OR member club member, other than that, get the people who really have some influence, and know Nick the best to help you out. No offence to Pat and Steve but Bruce and Cindy are much better positioned to negotiate on your behalf.

I'm in the workshop right now, and have been away from the interwebs all day until now. I'll put in a good word with the doctor when I head back in to go to bed and see if we can get that angle sorted for you.

I missed the part where it has to be a national license. That is a whole lot different than a regional license.

Normally you first need to have a regional license and about 6 races or so under your belt before you can apply for a national license. I think the right people are talking to each other regardless. To apply for the national license, what medical form do you need? You aren't applying for a regional license so you definitely need to get the asn forms from what I can figure out. I'm sure John Bondar will get you all straightened out. Just email my wife about the medical. She's in the ICU next week, you probably could get it done one afternoon next week at the hospital. Send her a link to the firm as soon as you know which one needs to be completed.

wing
June 7th, 2012, 06:39pm
Thanks to Rob and his wife, medical is complete! If I don't get a license it will not be for lack of support or trying, everyone has been so helpful. If I get a license it will be the most EPIC story of the race community coming together to help.

The crazy part is that this is a National License as you say, harder to get than a regional license so I have my doubts but I'm trying.

Thanks. Not sure how fast I am compared to my class, the touring class guys were buzzing around me like bees.

Little car handles well but down on power from what I'm use to lol. I'm basically flat out everywhere. Max I hit was 130 lol.

I need to adjust my driving to get straight earlier for fwd I'm so use to rwd.

I have at least 2 seconds to make I think, bspec has never run at icar so they don't know if I'm fast or not. Nobody else was there today to practice. But I'm pretty sure a few corners I could turn in later and get less. Scrubbing on exit to get faster.
