THE 2012 CALABOGIE GENTLEMAN'S GT RACE SERIES AND CALABOGIE CUP

It's BAAAAACK! As of today i finalized the dates for this years GT Race Series, and I have also worked out some pretty fancy deals for the folks who buy in bulk!! Details below!!

First the official stuff:

Think you have what it takes to Race at Calabogie Motorsports Park. Why not test your racing skill in the 2012 Calabogie Gentleman's GT Race Series AND the Calabogie Cup.

What's a gentlemen's race?
It is all about camaraderie, safety, sportsmanship and just good fun! There will be specific passing zones on a fully marshalled track, so playing nice is mandatory! This are must do events, and ask any previous participants, try it once and you are hooked. This makes lapping feel like a drive to the grocery store

How do I Qualify
1. You DO need to have been signed off to drive solo at Calabogie Motorsports Park, but you DON’T need a Race License. This entails having completed at least one full day at CMP with an instructor or equivalent.

2. You and your car must have an average runtime around the full track between 2:19-2:50. This series will run on the GT Short Track, cars will be broken into multiple classes based on qualifying times.

3. You must be running a Hero Cam or some other video recording system with a removable memory card inside the car to record the race from the drivers perspective. This reason this is mandatory is for safety ad legalities in case of an incident. For the most part videos are all for your fun and review/training.

4. You will require a SNELL Rated Helmet, M2000+ or SA2000+.

5. Your car must adhere to the CASC-OR Ontario Time Attack Safety Specifications located in SECTION 1 here:http://www.casc.on.ca/sites/default/...ons_online.pdf (http://www.casc.on.ca/sites/default/files/2011_time_attack_regulations_online.pdf)
The annual inspection list can be found here: http://www.casc.on.ca/sites/default/files/2012_vehicle_self_check_form.pdf
Calabogie Race officials hold the final word regarding the apparent safety of a vehicle. If they feel your vehicle is unsafe for the event, your vehicle will not be allowed on the track.

This is a pretty grassroots event, so we are currently looking for other sponsors to provide prizes and/or gifts for either placed finishes (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Last) and/or for draws. If you or someone you know would be interested in providing prizes of some sort (gift certificates, cash, merchandise, etc.), please contact me at CalabogieGT@gmail.com

Race Rules
Race Rules Gentlemen`s GT Race (Subject to change)
1. Passing will be in specific zones and is by point by only, one point by per car. If you are the second car and don’t see a point by, you must wait until you do.
2. Under no circumstances is a pass to take place without a point by signal. Once you give the point by, you must let the car pass, you may not out drag it to the next corner.
3. Passing without a point by, or passing in a non-passing zone will result in a black flag, a warning will be given in the pit lane and a second violation will result in disqualification from that session.
4. It is your responsibility to watch your mirrors. If someone is on your tail for at least 2 corners you MUST let them pass. If you stay on their tail for next 2 corners they must let you pass. Blue flags will be used, and if you are blue flagged, it means you are not doing your job and playing fair. Repeated disregard for the blue flag will result in a black flag and a drive through penalty, and or disqualification from the session.
5. This race is intended to introduce people to racing without the danger of car to car contact and drivers are expected to keep other’s safety in mind the whole time. We will do our best to not intrude on the racing with the blue flags but keep in mind that this series is a fun introduction, not the Montreal F1. Safety is paramount and we will pull anyone driving in an unsafe manner.
6. Minimum requirement for safety apparel will be: SNELL Rated Helmet, M2000+ or SA2000+, Full Length pants, closed toes shoes, and LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS. Full Racing Safety apparel is recommended.

I look forward to another fantastic series this year, and for many years to come. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Same as a CMP lapping day! :D

whoah...wicked deal considering a standard CMP lapping day was $ 452 HST included last year. Holy FACK.

edit: if my in my head math skills don't suck the GT races are $50 each if you consider the lapping day at full price with this bundle.

Mechs02

Race time is 40-45 minutes for every race. The enduro idea got mixed reviews last year, so we will use the Calabogie cup as the enduro type event.

How can you NOT sign up for the entire series right?! :D I thought you guys might find it to be a good deal. Plus the savings on the calabogie cup.... really you will not find a better deal for this kind of fun at this type of facility ANYWHERE.

Mechs02
January 26th, 2012, 10:43am
Only $50 per event by the Jethro's approach.

Here's the way i look at it. If you were to want to do 2 CMP lapping days this year, and the calabogie cup, that would cost you $1,356.00 for a pretty amazing time.

If you bought the 6 race package and added the calabogie cup, that will cost you $1,500. So for the added cost of only $144 dollars, you get 6 GT Races... for $24/each... where can you get that kind of fun for $24?!?

250 per race. Ouch my poor budget lol

Last year the qualifying was a 3 lap solo run. 1 warm up, 1 hot lap (timed), 1 cool down lap. You could run again if there was time by getting in line at the back of the grid again.

There were no classes last year so your qualifying time placed you in the starting grid. I suppose the classes will depend on how many cars are at a particular race and how they qualify.

Perhaps same format will be used this year?

Classes would defn help too!

I am sure there will be a few people at the test and tune who ran the short track last year and would be willing to have you shotgun then do a few laps with you in your car to get a feel for the "new" turn 1.

That's what I did. Worked ok for me.

Picture hitting 9a out of turn 1 at over 160 kph, then 9b at over 180, and you maybe get an idea... lifting is bad in there.

There will be breakout times relative to the fast time in each class. If you run a quicker lap time in the race, you will be bumped to the faster class. and yes, there are transponders this year :)

First off - pylons for the faster cars are kind of fun :) It also adds a whole new dimension to the race.

With respect to your pace on the track, the short track favours better handling cars over straight power. So you will do better than you think. ALSO this means you just have to convince more of the 4-banger N/A crowd to come to the events!

Less likely. Different number of marshalls required for each track. The change over at turn 1 is not as simple as just moving cones (there is clean-up etc.)

It was super fun last year regardless of not having classes. Would be more fun to be able to have couple of competitive classes going. Maybe work out an equation for power/weight and laptimes together.

This is a definite possibillity, but with any series in its infancy, until we get enough constant participants to justify enough classes. If that happens this year, then we will make it happned. And maybe base it on a similar classing system to ontario time attack. Or like actual local gt racing, it is just based on the time bracket you end up in.

I kind of beg to differ that a little. Short track has quite a long straight away, it is one hell of a ride from turn 20 to 10.. Even at the Ridge, power plays a huge role going up the hill.

Yeah but in general I think even the short track setup still favors power, it doesn't exactly level the playing field.

wing
January 28th, 2012, 01:32pm
No it doesn't but it does more so than the long track with the 3 straights. Once that front straight is done power isn't a big factor anymore, it was obvious during the race when I was behind Klaus, the only place I would gain a little was on the front straight.

So you can't keep on the throttle after the first right? There is quite a bit of a straight-way from the first right (temptation) down to the crown. And then again as I said before, the run up the Ridge makes quite a difference with a car that has power.

If you come and tell me that the short track doesn't still favor power, you are either trying to over credit yourself in your driving or you haven't truely tried to drive around in a less powerful car to see the difference yourself.

Yeah flat out from the last corner until 10 -- but it's less of a difference than on the BIG track is what I said. The full track has more straights so it makes more of a difference. But of course powerful cars still have an advantage on the short track.

Yeah obviously less than the full track. That flatout part till corner 10 is still pretty long if you ask me :D

January 29th, 2012, 12:16pm
There is definitely still a power advantage to either track, but less so on the short track. 20-10 gets pretty hairy in the stang.

SHort track is a definite equalizer for greg and me. I am/was faster than him on the full track, but he takes me on the short. It just changes the game.

If we can get some lower power cars for their own class it would be perfect.

Brake fluid has been flushed and bled... found a couple of air bubbles that appeared to be mid-line, pedal is now harder than ever (TWSS). I went to regrease my bearings, and found some bumpiness as i turned it in my hand... regreased it and installed it, could definitely feel a vibration in the hub as it rotated. i am not looking for a repeat of last years bearing failure so that will be replaced next week. Then i am down to an oil change, and a once over on every nut and bolt and we are ready to race!

oh and I got my HANS this week :D

Still waiting to hear from Jane. Car is in my possession, throwing stupid CEL but it's a BS 02 sensor thing. I either broke the sensor swapping the tranny, or blew the ECU for the primary O2 when I rewired. Crossing fingers it's just a bad O2. I tested the resistance it seems good, now I have to go through the painful testing of all the voltages and grounds. Or just buy an O2 sensor and plug it in LOL.

Either way car runs fine, I'll just have to check my codes once and awhile until I fix it.

Hey Matt, you may want to clarify Saturday's test and tune.....

I assumed it was full track, then read your first post and see it is GT Track, but there is a lapping day as well. So I checked bogie website and it says test and tune is GT track but only 4-8PM.

.?????

Mechs02
April 23rd, 2012, 12:36pm
Clarified. Just a typo on the calendar. It is the full day, not the evening. As a test and tuner, you will have full in and out privileges as opposed to the 30min on/30min off schedule of a regular lapping day.
