Depends on the organizers.

I had a 2005 E46 M3 vert with the factory hardtop and both the MCO and BMWCC would not let me run at Bogie.

I took it to Mosport DDT with Touge Racing and they had no probs with it.

Touge isn't a good example, they'd let you run a tricycle if you pay the entry fee. Convertible without a rollbar is going to be hit and miss since you'll always be at the mercy of rules used by whichever club is running the event. That said, Corvette with factory hardtop ?

I have the chance to pick up one of these on the cheap...
if it means I can track my car with it, I'll buy it.

if not, I'm not wasting my $$$...

I don't get how it's "okay" for one organization, but "forbiden" for other.

policies and procedures man.

if we lose those, what else do we have left? free will?

Some clubs use recognized standards, some clubs have their own rules and some clubs don't care and just want your money. That's why.

Hardtops on that condition usually go for $1000 or so.

this dudes moving by the end of OCT. and no longer has a E30 vert.
wants $400 for it....ffs.

car is headed to storage in a month, got a wedding to pay for etc etc...

don't think it's worth it, even at the sick price.

I wish I was rich.

if its really worth $1000, buy it and at the very least, sell it for $650 when/if you need the cash for the wedding.

I would buy it regardless. but that's me.

My impression is, if you are experienced enough to run with the intermed/advanced group, your HT will not be permitted. Eg. With the MCO and BMWCC, they said factory popup roll hoops on the M3 was OK if I was in the newbie group with the instructor in the car. Based on my past experience they said I couldn't run it in the newbie group, even though I volunteered to do so (I just wanted to try the SMG out on the track ffs), and HT or not they wouldn't allow it on the other run groups without a fully functional rollcage.

Alexxi is right about Touge though. You can run a moped without a helmet if you want lol.
