Poo+pants? Miata dudes, those arent 949 are they?

This happened this past weekend in a miata driven by a friend of mine in HPDE3. I think they are 949 racing wheels, pretty cheap and apparently dangerous...

Skip to the 1:50 mark for the action..

Meh... there are failures with every brand of wheels.

Sucks that it happened at high speeds like that, could have been much worst.

Agreed, people will jump on the "cheap wheel" bandwagon, but really, it could have been many factors.

would have been cooler if it happened on a race track.

No but in the least it would have be relevant to this particular thread.

Yeah for sure people will bandwagon, but 949s are excellent wheels used by countless race teams. Most of the Spec guys use them...
Could of happened to any aluminum wheel, whether cast or forged. Heck I've seen it happen to BBSs and Volks.

indeed... always did that on Evo4/9 rally team all the time on the compomotive rally wheels as it happened.

949 wheels aren't that cheap.... 17x9 for subaru is about $1k US. it's still more than 5zigen and double the price of Drag / XXR.

Nate, is that HD enough?

G-PWR you watched the video in the first post right?

Jethro

If you don't watch the vid to the end to see the stills that nate posted it does look like it's "just" a tire that is rolling off into the distance b/c the spokes are gone and presumably still attached to the car.

Video was removed.

Great Company.

949 replaced all the wheels for free and took his for investigation as to what happened...the video was also spreading like wildfire, I guess this thread didnt help that lol....he didnt want to bring any negative attention to them after they made it right.

I am not surprised 949 replaced the wheels for him. Any company with a little bit of business sense would do the same, specially with social media and internet causing to spread news like to be shared amongts millions of people.

Hats off to the guy if he took the video off without being asked to do so.
