im the one who owns/drives the z; i had a lot of friends helping me unload/prepp my car. Even though i remember tightening the lugs with a 4 way...i should of rechecked them after my 1st run because the wheel falling off happened on my 2nd or 3rd run.

but anyway, the spacers were BRAND NEW 38mm hubcentric 66.1(nissan bore) bolt on spacers from ebay; i've used plenty of ebay 30mm and 25mm and along with 30mm project kics; namebrand didnt make a difference because none ever failed on me; i really believe it was my fault. 2 of the 5 studs broke and the other 3 were fine, looks like the lugs came loose. And yes, while bolting down the wheels; that wheel was centered correctly while the car was in the air.

anyways, i had a lot of fun driving the event, although this happened, no serious damage resulted, i was able to put on more spacers, drift the rest of the day, ate some good food, had a good time in htown and drive 300+miles back home in one piece...lesson learned(retorque).

I just got home from houston; gotta catch up on some sleep; i'll take pics of the spacers when i get a chance and post if anyone wants to see.

when you are about to lose a wheel you can feel it. i have had one come loose on me but as soon as i knew something wasnt right i pulled over to figure it out.

i guess in autocross you are constatly mashing throtttle and brakes so i guess it would be harder to follow.... really too bad for the guy

I have always wondered the same thing. He went straight, then started a slide and it came off... he did not feel anything wrong at all after his previous run going to the parking lot and back?

Probably not otherwise i'm sure he would have not done it but still, makes ya wonder.

Not AutoX, drifting around cones :)

Unless my pit crew was payed I don't think I'd trust friends to torque my wheels. Sorry Friends, after run 1, I always check torque.

Holy crap. How can he say "no serious damage occured" after he almost tore the front bumper off, and landed the entire car on the left rear corner. Bent suspension, damaged bumper, damaged undercarriage, bent rotor???????? There has to be some fucked up shit on that car now.

I've lost a wheel in a Drivex rally once.. felt it for a long time, wicked vibration like your wheel is out of balance. I had recently hit a rock so figured it was that, started taking it easy, no vibration when on the brakes hmmm maybe its......... then it rolled away.

lesson learned.

stupid audi.

WHOA.

just ran in from outside and checked all 24 lugs on the truck.
had to tools so I just tried to jiggle them with my fingers, than I kicked them with my dress shoes I wear at work.
I really hurt my big toe, and I scuffed the leather on one, so I grabed two rocks and a stick and Mcgyvered a makeshift wrench and checked the torque.

So, I've called Gervais towing...they're on their way now. They will sit idle on standby untill I leave work tonight around 3:30 to follow/observe me while I drive untill I get home.
I've also alerted the PM's motorcade to escort me during this journey.

Thanks for the headsup RANDOMWASTEOFFAWKING TIME>

I lost a wheel on my openwheeler this summer.
I should have suspected something...my crew was really distracted and the usual checklist of stuff to do before a race was not being done. So I'm on the mock grid and go to swing around onto the track (at Mosport)...a 180 turn. I start to accelerate to start the formation lap and I hear a huge bang behind me. Next thing I know the rear wheel comes off and accelerates up and knocks me in the helmet. Then I watch it take off in the grass. I pull the car over the best I can and say "What the Fuuuuuuu".
I unbelt and get out...wait for the rest of the field to pass and jump the pitwall. I'm yelling at the crew, their trying to figure out how it happened. The tow truck comes around and picks up the car...meanwhile the start is waved off. The field gets a red flag and is trying to figure out if they are supposed to pit or return to the start line...bottomline chaos. I walk back to the paddock and my car is already there...and no damage done. The crew slaps on another wheel and off I go...missed one lap. Still a bit freaked out I crossed the blend line...because I was checking to see if my wheels were going to come off...and get meatballed for a stop and go penalty. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!. So I lost two laps but still finished.
From that point on, the crew has to mark each wheel with a "x" in chalk so that I know the lugs have been torqued.
Good times.
