Its much worse than you think. This is what will happen.

1. no insurance
2. no means of writing the vehicle off, since only the insurance company cna do it
3. instant collection from the financer since the car is a total loss
4.insurance will still deam it as an at fault accident, on your record regardless if you claimed or not
5.Since the car isn't' written off, its not illegal to fix it.
6.odds are insurnace will drop him for racing
7. welcome to facility
8. kiss the moneys good bye

I keed, really sucks especially that far from home makes it a lot worse I think. Don't lap your daily driver for sure that can suck even worse and if you can't afford to leave it at the track don't go balls out!

You can lap and have fun and not risk your car (baring mechanical failure) this year has been brutal on cars I think as people are getting use to the track they are pushing harder and harder and more shit is happening.

Mortgage dude almost put his STI in the wall in the kink, good thing he has tons of experience, but it was a close one he saved it with mad skillz, I was in the car writing my will as we were mid corner.

Hey guys.. I'm trying to help this lad out and get his car back to him in Boston and out of my shed..

Need a winch to get it on the trailer. Any ideas on where to rent/borrow one.

Yeah reading it now.

It's official they are denying my claim. The only ting they are considering is paying to lien holder on the car (Subaru) since I owe 28.5k on this car. Not holding my breath.

The official reason the car was used for a "pre-arranged speed activity". Don't think this one will be beaten in court. It would take a damn good attorney. The only possibility is that ther are NO posted speed limits on a track... so how can they call it speeding? Still a judge has to buy that one. Again... not holding my breath.

Car stuck in Canada. Cost a thousand to ship it. Then try to part out to make money back. What a mess... stupid is as stupid does.

RandomHer0
September 15th, 2010, 02:36pm

Depends what's worse for his credit rating.. Declaring bankruptcy, or just telling the finance company to come get it cause he's not paying anymore..

Personally I'd just eat it and see what I can get for part out..

Bankruptcy would be far worse than "destroying" his credit. Besides, the lien holder won't pardon the debt by picking up the vehicle. They will want some sort of settlement. Seeing as insurance won't cover it, they'll go after him for some coin.

30k seems like small change to claim bankruptcy...
I believe there are other factors in play. I think I read that he's a business owner.

If I had a better look at that front end I could let him know if its salvageable. The problem is, when he fixes it hes sorta breaking the law.

awndray
September 15th, 2010, 09:57pm
When I crashed mine, it didn't have quite that amount of damage and it was a write-off. State Farm offered me two options:

A) $28,000 pay-out, lose the car, start over;
B) $19,000 pay-out, keep the car, do whatever you want with it (this meant, if I wanted it back on the road, good luck re-certifying it);
C) $0 pay-out, keep the car, fuck my life.

The choice was simple. In this guy's case, he doesn't have many options. Even if he did re-build it, he would have to sell it at a hell of a discount and provide full disclosure. Granted, I don't know how this all works in the States, but I personally wouldn't want the burden of dealing with that.

Why is he sorta breaking the law by fixing it?

Vandy
September 15th, 2010, 09:59pm
It's fucked. I'll have some pics later on when I remove the front pass fender.. Just beyond the strut mount the frame/body is all crumpled in as well as the sub frame..

I don't even think it would be worth finding a shell and swapping since the condition of the motor and tranny are questionable, then once done, the sale price + cost of the shell would still put him in the red..

Best bet if you ask me is to part it out over the next 2-3 years.. Not many 08+ STi's in the scrap yard for parts..
